I'm willing to give the people in charge of Star Wars these days the benefit of the doubt that they could turn the theft of the Death Star plans into a kick-ass adventure movie. It could basically be a heist movie with SW tech and space dogfights. Sounds great to me!

Heist movies are one of my favorite genres.
This is a much better jumping off point, than the Prequels concentrating on telling the stories of characters we already know the outcomes of. All the principle characters in the prequels should have been tangential characters to the stories being told. That way we would have had both a different perspective on the events, as well as having the focus being on characters whose fates were up for grabs.
We know the rebel mission is successful- but like a Mission:Impossible episode (TV series more so than the films) there are a lot of kinks that will happen on the way to create suspense.
The general idea for this movie is a sound one. Like everything else, execution is up in the air- but my feeling is this could be a whole mess of fun.
Bonus points for not having anything to do with the Jedi.

Ahsoka Tano is one of the main characters from the Clone Wars CGI animated series. She is rather popular with fans, so I wouldn't be surprised at all to see her in a movie some day.

Yes, I would love to see some totally unrelated story with characters that aren't directly connected to the main series. Perhaps they could be affected by events in the main series, but that sounds far more interesting than a story that is ultimately irrelevant (how the Death Star plans were taken just doesn't seem that interesting, and is far less important than what happens once the plans are stolen).

If Disney is really serious about a SW film every single year (ugh), then undoubtedly they will have to start telling stories unrelated to the main episode movies. So I guess I shouldn't complain too much.

Too bad we couldn't see a Shadows of the Empire film made with the original cast as I really think if it were done it could bridge the gap between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and make the final act of the Original Trilogy seem stronger. I suppose it could be done as a CG film or something but it wouldn't have quite the same effect as doing it live action.

Nothing can make ROTJ seem stronger. There are simply too many late hour contrivances that will forever gimp it.
I wouldn't even mind if they walk back the brother/sister reveal in these new films and contrive that Leia was a changeling and the real sister was spirited away from Bail Organa while still an infant. Of course 35 year old fans would scream bloody murder at that contrivance...but is that any sillier or more foolish than the original canard of suddenly pulling out the brother sister bit?

I could see myself getting fatigued over Star Wars much more quickly than I have been with Marvel, but you may be right. Maybe I'm just a grump.

Yes, you are, but you're still right . But I'm sure they're going to tel the opportunity to milk the most financially lucrative property in the world for as long as they possibly can. Well, except for the one....

I would really like to see a "Star Wars Tales" tv series. It would probably have to be CGI, but the concept would be that it would tell stories from all over the Star Wars universe. Maybe do 24 episodes a season, with six four-part stories. They could be set in between movies, feature familiar characters or all new characters, take place during the "KOTOR" days, or anything else. "Shadows of the Empire" could be one of those.

Sam Claflin is being eyed for one of the starring roles in “Star Wars: Rogue One,” while Riz Ahmed is in talks to join the cast as well, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Disney and the actors’ reps had no comment.
Felicity Jones and Ben Mendelsohn are set to star in “Rogue One,” which was recently revealed to be a heist actioner involving a group of resistance fighters who unite to steal the plans to the Death Star.
Gareth Edwards is directing the film, which will take place between the events of Episode III, “Revenge of the Sith,” and the original “Star Wars” film, “A New Hope.”
While Claflin does not have the role yet, he is the frontrunner for one of the ensemble roles. He has a lot of experience as a supporting player in blockbusters ranging from “Snow White and the Huntsman” to “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “The Hunger Games,” but he is being eyed for a more substantial role in “Rogue One.”
“Star Wars: Rogue One” will be released Dec. 16, 2016.
Claflin and Ahmed, best known for “Four Lions” and “Nightcrawler,” are both repped by CAA.

Director Gareth Edwards has found another rebel fighter to battle the Empire in “Star Wars: Rogue One.” Sources tell Variety that Diego Luna has landed a lead role alongside Felicity Jones and Riz Ahmed, with Ben Mendelsohn set to star as the film’s primary villain.

Seriously? They're hiring someone with the name, "Ahmed" for a new Star Wars movie?
