I seem to remember hearing the filmmmaking say that there is no opening crawl because everything it would have said has already been said in episode IV's opening crawl. I would like the logo to appear but I guess if there's no crawl then no logo makes sense.

There should be a star wars logo, something that said A Star Wars Tale or to that effect, and no Regular John Williams opening fanfare but a new lowkey version.

The sequel is the backstory of this guy.

It will still start with LFL and "A long time ago..."?

Any Rogue One characters who survive the movie (if there are any) could, in theory, appear in a Rogue One sequel that takes place after ANH, or even during ANH.

would be really cool if a younger version of Max Von Sedow's old man character which appeared kind of out of nowhere in TFA was part of the Rogue One rogues... would add more weight to his appearance and subsequent death.

The problem w/ that is most people don't even remember who the fuck he was. Just an old guy. Lor Sen Tekka that was his name. I had to look that up cuz that character was pretty much a noboby. I don't even remember if his name was even said.

It'd be a stupid thing to try to drum something up for a character that had no impact to be acknowledged much by the audience, to now have a reason to exist.

Yes but the rumors before TFA was that he was was a character that had a history dating back to the PT and then the movie comes out and he has not back story. It's weird to cast that name for a 5 minute part in the movie. I mean I think that's all it will ever be but I think it would be cool to tie him back into something in the past.

Isn't that the old myopic Lucas M.O.? Every stupid little detail must tie back in to the Skywalker saga?

I will be disappointed if there is no crawl (so it sounds as if I am going to be disappointed). I have always believed Star Wars should be the story of the struggles of the universe, the Empire and the Rebellion, the Clone Wars, and the history of the Jedi -- Light and Dark. It is so much bigger than just the story of the whiny-ass Skywalker clan. This movie is one of the stories I have waited for for decades. I'm already distraught at the "A Star Wars Story" crap. Why are they trying so hard to sabotage this movie and not allow it to be what it is? Why are they trying so hard to distance this from Star Wars?

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16, D: Edwards) S: Jones, Luna, Mendelsohn, Y

Have said it before. They really need to put the crawl in these spin-off movies. Especially since they are jumping around the timeline. Casual viewers who don't go to forums and check in on Star Wars topics probably don't know when this takes place. Far as they know, the Empire is building a 3rd Death Star.

A crawl could easily let them know exactly where it takes place. "Days before Princess Leia's fateful meeting of Luke Skywalker & Han Solo..." would let people know this takes place before Episode 4.

If they leave anything out of these films, it should be the Episode #. Especially if there will be several films between the main episodes. LOL if they did and it ended up being Rogue One: Episode 3.5. Han Solo Movie: Episode 3.25 Ben Kenobi movie: Episode 3.31 etc.

Crawl or NO SALE!!

Honestly, how can they not do a crawl? Resinrats, I agree with you... the casual fan will wonder wtf is going on in the timeline.

Personally, I'd rather they keep "the crawl" exclusive to the numbered "saga" films. If the new "story" films need an introduction, then they should do something different like a narrated introduction, or a static text screen.

I would also prefer that they change things up for these "story" films like not using wipes to transition between scenes and different kinds of music. Keep the wipes and John Williams score exclusive to the "saga"films.

My only issue is that he is mentioned in the opening crawl as an old friend, but it is no one we have ever seen or heard of before.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (12/16/16, D: Edwards) S: Jones, Luna, Mendelsohn, Y

Jesus. You people need to have everything telegraphed don't you? I'm pretty sure in the film people will talk about things placing you right where you need to be so that you understand when this is happening. Dialogue is a hell of a marker for you to find out when something like this can be happening. A small bit of work on the audience to piece when this is happening. Not a big deal.

The crawl should only belong to main saga. You keep doing it for every film, it doesn't make it special anymore.

It'd be dumb fuck to want the same style applied to the "story" films.

I'm pretty sure video games get the crawl...and I think comic books do too.

I guess I am okay with no crawl but I thought there would be one that basically gave a short overview of the prequel novel Catalyst. Touching on the history of Geonosis and the death star (episode II callback!) and a bit about Erso and Krennic's history.

Christmas Special also didn't have a crawl. So that settles it.

Without the crawl, how am I supposed to know what happened in the previous Star Trek film?
