Re: Godzilla (Edwards, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

There are kids who are upset over being separated from their parents. Kids in danger either by themselves or there's a schoolbus load of them on the Golden Gate Bridge while it's breaking apart. But many of these scenes are in the trailers.

By the way, I saw a trailer for it yesterday and have a question for those who saw the movie.
Spoiler:
There's a shot of the Statue of Liberty with damage. Did that not show up in movie or did I miss it somehow

I haven't seen the movie yet by isn't that Statue of Liberty from New York New York on Las Vegas? I assume the destruction of Vegas is present in the film.

I don't recall seeing that specific shot of
Spoiler:
the Statue of Liberty
, but there is definitely a wide shot of the destruction shown in the trailer. Plus some other interesting bits.

Just seemed like a big shot but I know how trailer stuff won't make it to the final cut. Maybe test audiences got confused?

Seeing Godzilla again tomorrow in IMAX 3D. Will be looking for more specific details. Better theater, better sound!

Is this the specific shot you're talking about? http://cdn.bleedingcool.net/wp-conte....24.png?9098e0

If so I don't think I remember seeing it in the movie, but I'm not 100% sure.

Funny. After seeing it in IMAX 3D, I plan on seeing it in regular 2D

How was the 3d? Where I live there's a theater with one screen that has fantastic picture and sound but is only showing the 3d version. Then there are Carmike Theaters that are showing both but the picture and sound arent usually nearly as good. Was planning on seeing the 2D but how distracting is the 3d?

I actually didn't know they were releasing this in 3D until this week...is this another upconvert or was it shot in 3D? Not going to waste the extra money if it's the former (I'll just wait for the Blu-ray for 3D).

I think it's a PC. Take note that most PCs suck but not all. Pacific Rim was a great PC.

It wasn't very distracting to me. There were a few moments where it kinda popped. Otherwise, it felt more natural.

Not sure. Do the credits show if 3D cameras are used? I usually don't think about looking.

It was shot digitally, but apparently DP Seamus McGarvey hates 3-D (God bless him), and say that he shot the film like it was 2-D film.

Re: Godzilla (Edwards, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

So...mixed reviews that are mostly on the positive side (a Highly Recommended / Skip It / Recommended on this site, JoBlo gave it a 6/10...although he makes the 6 sound less negative by noting that the final 3rd of the film really is a tour de force spectacle monster film), still excited to see the film, but at least now my expectations have been properly set.

I will be dragging my parents to this tomorrow or Saturday, depending on how much time I spend at the Big Wow Comic Show.

Does it have a different aspect ratio for the Imax release like Pacific Rim did?

I don't know if PR did, but Skyfall definitely did.

PR did have a different ratio in Imax. It ran at 1.90:1 instead of 2.40:1. The blu release also opened it up to 1.85:1.

Re: Godzilla (Edwards, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

There's a 3-star review of GODZILLA by Lou Lumenick in today's New York Post, but it doesn't appear in its on-line edition so I can't link to it.

There's a great line at the end of the review that I'll just type in here:

Here's hoping that next time Warner Bros. will give the big old guy a reunion with Mothra. And I hear the other Olsen sisters are available to play the flying monster's tiny singing companions.

really? ... the screening I saw this at, on a RPX screen it was full screen 1.85, not 2.40
