The best part is the prologue with Cranston. After that it’s kind of just a lot of meh throughout. Godzilla is cool when he shows up, but he’s not in nearly enough of the movie.
Yeah, having gone in either with no spoilers or having completely forgotten any spoilers, I was really surprised at Cranston's absence in the second half of the movie. I thought for sure that doctor would've been mistaken because he was like the heart of the movie at that point and it's not like his son was a compelling enough character on his own. Was Cranston supposed to have a bigger part but something else got in the way?

On a side note, the whole Godzilla is on the side of humanity despite being a force of nature thing also seemed weird to me. I get he's the alpha predator and maybe only cares when like gigantic monsters wake up, but it seems like the humans with their nukes are a bigger issue to the safety of the planet than the kaiju were. Though I guess he shrugged off that WW2 blast so maybe he still doesn't see us as a threat? Him just sort of waking up from his nap and wandering back to the sea while everyone cheers him on was almost comical (though true to the source I guess)
