Well, anyone can edit Wikipedia... but if you continue on down on that same page it goes on to say:
"Boyle also clarified that John Hodge wrote an original screenplay for the sequel, and that the film would not be a strict adaptation of Porno. An earlier script was reportedly written about 10 years prior, but was scrapped so that the original cast would agree to return for a film sequel."
IMDb Trivia: "Although Irvine Welsh wrote a follow-up to his novel Trainspotting in 2002 called 'Porno', this movie follow-up is actually only very loosely based on Porno. It is mostly an original story which includes some unused parts of the Trainspotting novel, and some elements from Porno."
And straight from Boyle's mouth: There's been a question mark over how much the film will be based on Irvine Welsh's own 2002 follow-up novel, 'Porno', and Boyle addressed that too: 'It’s kind of influenced in its origins by “Porno” – the idea of the friends being brought back together again,' he told us, while promoting his new film, 'Steve Jobs'. 'But other than that, it’s very original. It’s written by John Hodge, who adapted the original screenplay from Irvine’s book. Irvine’s involved, but he’s been very gracious – he’s letting us get on with it. He’s there for us for any advice. But it’s not a strict adaptation of “Porno” and it won’t be called “Porno”.’

I don't see how. You said "I hope this one does as well with Porno as Trainspotting did." I said it wasn't an adaptation of that. Boyle literally says it isn't an adaptation of Porno and that it is an original story with loose ties to Porno. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I just don't get what you're saying.

What I said was that I was impressed how the movie made a cohesive movie out of a novel which has no real structure. Porno is written much the same way. So I was saying that I hope that the sequel accomplishes what the original did with the source material. Sounds like from what you posted, that will be the case.

Same can be said about the sequel book, Porno. I liked it, but could have done without it. Nonetheless, it's nice seeing all of them again.

I caught it this weekend and think it's a very worthy sequel to the original. Love all the callbacks and flashbacks to the original. It's a direct sequel, with Renton returning to Edinburgh 20 years after he bailed with the cash from the drug deal because things didn't work out in Amsterdam.
It had the same style as the 1st, was funny and moving at times, good music. The original cast had no trouble jumping back into those characters.
If you liked the 1st, definitely check this out.

Wow... those What The Flick reviewers are very bitter! And they come off sounding so entitled.
Anyways, I caught the flick last night (rematched the first one a few nights ago). While this one isn't as great as the original, it's a pretty darn good follow-up and I think there is absolutely a reason for this movie. Yes, the reason Renton returns is a bit contrived, but basing the whole movie off of the consequences of the final moments of the first movie from 20 years earlier was very interesting.
I definitely recommend checking it out if you are a fan of the original!

It's a good sequel where I felt not so much for Renton, but for Spud. Interesting background for Begbie. I wish there was more with Diane.

I thought it was pretty good, especially liked Spud's whole story.

Saw this tonight. I loved it. Its not quite as good as the original, but thats ok, I can live with that. It had some really genuine moments, both comedic and dramatic. The music choices weren't quite as inspired as the first one, but how could they be? I thought almost all of the callbacks were perfect and added to the film. Spud reading to Begbie was amazing. The toilet scene was fucking amazing. The Tommy memorial was a great scene. I thought Begbie and Spud were written beautifully. So was the relationship between Sick Boy and Renton. It felt like their story wasn't completely resolved, so I wonder if the spin off actually happens given the fact that this film kind of flew under the radar. Anyways it wasn't perfect, but I'm definitely happy they made it.

I am perplexed by the fact that this movie was ever made. Compared to the first one, it was dull, lifeless, uninteresting, and by the end of it, all I could do was wonder what the whole point was. Such a let down.

Finally watched this, last night. I absolutely loved it. It was everything I wanted it to be. I was so worried that I was going to be disappointed, but thankfully that was not the case.
Loved the soundtrack, too! I'll definitely be picking that up.
I suppose the only thing I really would have liked would have been to see more of Kelly Macdonald, but it really wouldn't have made sense.
I was going to watch it with my wife, but decided I didn't want any distractions, or to have to pause it for any reason. Just a straight through watch, and at a volume she wouldn't appreciate. I also knew there would be a lot she didn't remember from the original, so I would've been wanting to explain all the callbacks. There was also the concern that if she wasn't liking it, it would take some of the enjoyment out of it for me. So I watched it when she went to work a night shift.
Looks like there's a ton of deleted scenes on the BD as well as a commentary with Danny Boyle and John Hodge.

I enjoyed Renton's "Chooose Life" monologue and a few of the scenes with Spud, but I really felt the script was lacking in places.
