Had the same opinion. There was just not enough here to base a movie around. The entire cast seemed bored. The plot was uninspired to say the least. The flashbacks only served to remind you how limp and flat this movie was in comparison to the original.

I have a question about T2 Trainspotting
It seems from other sites I’ve been on like IMDB, there are deep meanings in movies.
So my question: does anyone know what the closing scene in T2 Trainspotting represents,if anything?
The end where one of the characters is in his room ( I don’t want to say who, In case someone has not seen it.) I would value an opinion

Well its pretty obvious. Denton is revisiting the room he grew up in and where he has some pretty serious demons (the whole going cold Turkey and have visions of the dead baby crawling on the ceiling from the first movie). Plus all this not so suitle throw backs and in your face references like the trains on the wallpaper, the update version of Lust for Life (which I guess also means he has chosen life and finally feels free of his demons) and of course the zoom out which gives the illusion of a train tunnel. Almost saying that the audience are the trainspotters as we have been the voyeurs to everything that's happened.
I still didn't care for this movie at all. Nowhere near as good as the first.

Love T1, but I couldn't get all the way thru this sequel.
I simply didn't care about the characters anymore.

Finally watched this. Really liked it. Funny and touching. Great to see these characters again.
Read both books and enjoyed them but never followed up with Welsh afterwards. Looks like he wrote a prequel, a sequel, and a Begbie spin off. Gonna check those out.

Watched this yesterday. It’s pretty good. So many scenes are scary and funny at the same time. That same sort of blending of emotions that the first film had. Spud’s attempt at suicide is sad, heartfelt, disgusting, and ultimately warm and funny. Bigby brow beating his son for going to school is simultaneously scary, horrifying, and hilarious.
I also like that it’s more than a tad aware that it’s wallowing in nostalgia.

This comment amused me. Do you need to see the first one? Not really.
What you need to do is see the first one, and then live twenty fucking years of your life. Maybe watch it 3 or 4 more times during that twenty years. Then you’ll appreciate the sequel.

Spoiler:
Not sure why this one gets soooo much hate...

Does it get hate? I wasn’t aware of that. A good standalone on its own, but when it’s a sequel to one of the 90’s best movies, they were reaching quite a bit. Still good enough. I loved the books and the movies of them.

I think some people can’t find the humor in miserable situations. That’s my theory about Bringing Out the Dead. Most people don’t see that it’s a comedy. The first Trainspotting would have had just about as lukewarm a reception as this if it hadn’t been for the massive marketing push. It was the movie you “had to see!” Most of its massive audience probably didn’t see the humor in it.
