It was so pretty though.... Seeing it was actually a pleasurable experience. It was the bad storytelling which sunk it. Style over substance if ever there was.

Thank you for saying that quicker and clearer!

I honestly can't see what people find so difficult to understand about Alien 3. It's a rather straightforward story.

The problem I had with Alien 3 was that it was a disappointing continuation of the Aliens saga. As far as a standalone film, more or less, I think it was done quite well. It had it's own look that contrasted the previous films, good acting, and a bittersweet ending.

Resurrection was a pretty decent movie up until the end.
Agree, it was decent. It wasn't awful.
It was a very visually striking picture, it brought interesting new characters to the universe (hell, I'd love to see spinoff movies with the crew of the Betty), and it gave us a plausible explanation as to why the hell Ripley was there (seriously, coincidence only carries you so far).
I thought it was the least visually striking film of the series. The other films already took place in the future, and this one is 200 years ahead of those, yet the technology looks grimy and less advanced. The xenomorph designs and effects looked like they took a step backwards from Aliens. It looked like a typical Sci-Fi B-movie.

The end however, was pureed shit and (I think) why everybody hates it. But really, a genetically engineered alien-human hybrid looking for its momma was still better than the creatures in Prometheus.
The creatures in Prometheus were pretty boring to look at but the newborn alien from Resurrection was a crude and lazy interpretation of Giger's work. The idea itself is not that innovative considering that full grown xenomorphs from the first two films are already a result of alien and human DNA. The facehugger impregnates a host, and the result is a hybrid based on the hosts form.

Prometheus was a bad film from a story standpoint but it had some good actors, and the special effects and set design were really good.

Worse case scenario: Prometheus 2 bombs and then no studio wants to give Ridley money for Blade Runner.
No. No no no no no. Give me ten thousand Prometheus sequel before one more Blade Runner movie. Alien is a great film and it will forever irk me that Prometheus has tarnished it, but Blade Runner is a masterpiece and Scott cannot possibly improve upon it in any way. Any movie he makes in a Blade Runner universe will lessen Blade Runner, and that is not something we need in the world.

Yeah, Blade Runner is great and doesn't need a sequel. But Alien was already tarnished with Resurrection and the later AvP films.

Prometheus never ruined Alien. Nothing done in the former has narratively ruined the latter. Alien is still very separate from Prometheus. Containing same elements but SO FAR hasn't hurt it. The one thing that could damage it via connected narrative object is how Mr. Space Jockey got to LV-426. And if the Weyland company is still connected with the SJs by that point.

Either way it's played... The Nostromos still arrives to the location for its own reason.

Don't say that to Ridley $cott. He will shit on his legacy for a buck. If all else fails, go back to what put you on the map and ruin it (sound familiar folks).

I just don't get this line of thinking that so many people seem to have. How was Alien tarnished by the sequel and tie-ins that you mentioned? I loved it when I first saw it and I still love it, regardless of the other movies.

Re: Prometheus 2 (2015, Scott) S: Fassbender, Rapace

I actually thought Resurrection was an improvement over Alien 3, until the final act. That newborn stuff was worse than anything Prometheus dished out. However, Prometheus is guilty of needing dumber than shit characters to drive the plot forward. That's a major pet peeve of mine, even in a horror movie.

I will say this much about Resurrection: the crew of smugglers was obviously Whedon's blueprint for Firefly, so I will give it that.

I loved the water scene from Resurrection, but that's it.

I enjoyed AVPR more than Prometheus and Resurrection.

Anyone hear about the Alien Isolation video game plot?
Spoiler:
Ripley's daughter is alive, Burke lied. Daughter goes looking for Ripley.

Sounds like that'd have been a nice sequel.

Yeah. But she's young. In Aliens, don't we know that she lived pretty much a long life?

GOod point.

I don't know all the game details. Maybe she got frozen up and lost, too.

Despite all the criticisms, which are all very valid, I still enjoyed Prometheus. I'll check out a sequel.

There May Not Be a Xenomorph in 'Prometheus' Sequel, Says Ridley Scott
8:40 AM PDT 9/25/2014 by Graeme McMillan

Ridley Scott has opened up about the development process for the follow-up to his 2012 Alien prequel Prometheus, teasing what audiences will see in the movie — and one particular thing that they won’t.

“The beast is done. Cooked,” he told Yahoo! Movies, referring to the classic xenomorph designed by H.R. Giger for the original Alien movie. “I got lucky meeting Giger all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that,” he went on. “I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do.”

Instead, he says, “I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.” The next movie, he teased, will “probably have to go with [Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw] and [Michael Fassbender’s android David] – without his head.” He joked that audiences will “find out how he gets his head back on” in the sequel.

“Right now, as we speak, it’s being written,” he said of the status of the movie, which he said has apparently made it through 15 drafts already (Fox confirmed to THR that it was developing a sequel back in 2012, although no release date has been set by the studio). Also being actively developed, Scott teased, was the much-discussed Blade Runner follow-up. “It’s on the charts,” he said. “I can’t say when that would be yet, because of [Harrison Ford’s] thing with Star Wars. It’s a sequel — it’s what happens next. It’s quite surprisingly clever.”

If Damon Lindelof isn't available to write the script, might I suggest someone from Under the Dome?
