Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz are different people.

I can never remember her name either, but if my only job was to introduce her on the Oscars, I might have made a concerted effort to get it right. At worst I would check the teleprompter first.

Reading through this thread I really have to say I don't understand why American Hustle is so hated. It was a well made film with solid performances by the entire cast and a lot of fun. Seems odd that it's so divisive with people either really loving it or really hating it. I don't think it deserved best picture for the record but it was a good film.
I'm okay with 12 Years a Slave winning. Very good movie with a lot of great performances and a lot of heartbreak as well. I think I personally would have rather seen Her or The Wolf of Wall Street take home the prize though as they're both movies I enjoyed more and can see myself revisiting often. Dallas Buyers Club would have been a satisfying win too but at least Matthew McConaughey took home the best actor award.

American Hustle, 10 nominations no wins, topped only by The Color Purple and The Turning Point 11 nominations and no wins. Impressive.

No surprises at all.
Highlights:
Bill Murray paying tribute to Harold Ramis
Matthew McConaughey's speech.
Brad Pitt, Oscar winner.
Ellen asking if Harvey Weinstein would pay for the pizza.
The quick 2 second clip of John Stamos sitting in the audience.
The fact that Spike Jonze has a WRITING Oscar of all things.
Glad MM won best actor. Can you imagine 5 years ago if someone said "Matthew McConaughey Oscar winner" in the same sentence. Now fast forward to today and he's doing amazing work in great movies.

That definitely came out wrong. I've never heard Cate ever say anything negative or nasty about anyone or anything. And what she said doesn't even make sense. The movie is only 90 minutes and doesn't feel a second longer. My guess is that she was saying it was such an intense performance and film, it felt unrelenting (?) If that's the right word. I just can't imagine or believe she would say anything nasty about another nominee's film or performance during her acceptance speech. Hell, at the Spirit Awards, she questioned why there were only 5 female nominations when there were 6 males nominated! And asked "Have you guys not seen Greta Gerwig in 'Frances Ha'?" (who wasn't nominated). If this becomes an issue, I know she will clear up what she meant.

And it was very fitting, and quite freaky, that Linklater was in the crowd to see him awarded.

The internet appears to be outraged that McConaughey won and Leo didn't, so we have that to look forward to for at least a full day before attention spans shift elsewhere.

When Sidney Poitier came out on the 50th anniversary of his historic Best Actor win, it would have been nice to show clips from that awards show or from the film he won for, LILIES OF THE FIELD.
I wonder how jealous the rest of the attendees were that Ellen shared pizza only with that favored cluster of celebs around the center aisle up front, mostly the 12 YEARS/OSAGE COUNTY/AMERICAN HUSTLE crowd. You think she could have had the graciousness to have the guy deliver a box up to the bleachers where the GRAVITY crew was ensconced. I mean, they kept winning Oscars all night. All that walking to and from the stage must have worked up quite an appetite.
J-Law looked so cute eating her slice.

After a number of years of diminishing returns and completely ignored the Oscars this year. It does appear the most deserving won this year which is shocking. Glad Wolf of Wall St walked away with zilch. Simply a terrible movie. One of Scorseses worst. Glad Steve McQueen won. His previous two movies were incredible. I may tune in next year if they replace the incredibly unfunny Ellen with someone with talent and who can bring the laughs.
