I mean, he's not wrong.

It does appear that the scene that he was supposed to be in was going to directly address the problems with his character though.

He's wrong in the sense that Pepe is supposed to be reprehensible (for a kid's show, anyway) both in his character traits and his literal stink... because he's a skunk... and skunks stink.

Pepe was never a role model. Anyone who thought otherwise wasn't paying attention. Though I guess that explains it right there.

I'm getting the feeling that I need to buy any Pepe Le Pew cartoons that I don't already have PDQ.

These days, you never know.

Different era and whatnot, but Pepe Le Pew does have the vibes of a creepy guy who can’t accept no for an answer. Not sure if I would say he needs to be cancelled, but I can kind of see not wanting to promote a character like that in modern times.

I mean, you could, but let’s be honest, Pepe Le Pew is a one-note character and that note is Rapist. We won’t exactly be missing anything if they stop showing his cartoons.

Also, as Dex noted above, Dave Chapelle is the first person I thought of when I heard this news.

He's also a French stereotype.

As a kid, they were never my favorite. They were all basically the same plot, where that cat somehow ends up with a white stripe down her back, Pepe sees her and falls in love with her, then spends the rest of the episode hopping around pursuing her.

The implied sexual assault/rape stuff went right over my head when I was a seven years old, though.

I agree that Pepe is a one-note character, but I find that note to be hysterically funny. He makes me laugh because he's a walking advertisement of what NOT to do in pursuing l'amour du femme skunk. I think that it's important to note that he NEVER winds up with the paint-striped cat.

And, let's face it, if a guy gets his ideas of how to woo a woman by mimicking the moves of a cartoon skunk, he's undoubtedly got much bigger problems to deal with. Does anyone think that ANY viewers of these cartoons are rooting for Pepe to succeed?

I'm no expert, but isn't this pretty much how things work in the animal kingdon? How do animals give each other consent? I guess if they don't try and run away or scratch each other's eyes out. Maybe the problem was that Pepe is always expecting the cat to act like a female skunk and he never realizes that it's not a skunk. Was there ever an episode where Pepe met a female skunk?

This actually reminds me of when I visited a pineapple farm in Maui. I saw one female duck getting chased by four male ducks. And one male duck eventually “mounted” the female duck and did his thing. The female duck definitely didn’t give consent. She wanted none of it.

But I’m pretty sure I’ve seen nature documentaries where male birds try to win over female birds with the loudest chirp, most colorful feathers, or a dance. The female picks her favorite. I guess that would be consent in the animal kingdom.

Note - I’m not debating the cancelling of Pepe Le Pew, I’m just mentioning some nature stuff.

On one hand you have a point. On the other, I’m pretty sure in the animal kingdom, animals don’t typically confuse their species with that of another species, even if there’s an accidental paint stripe on said other species.

As I typed that I was expecting that someone would post something like that.

I guess I should have used the word “mate” instead of “confuse”.

What about the ones where he chases guy cats like Sylvester?

I believe there were one or two times when the cat turns the tables and Pepe finds it off-putting because his position of power is now taken away as he is aggressively pursued.

There is also the cartoon where he gets mixed up with an escaped wildcat. The cat sheads him and he mistakes it for kinky foreplay.

In the first Pepe Le Pew cartoon, it was revealed that his real first name is Henry and he is a philandering husband pretending to be a great French lover like Maurice Chevalier.

The real controversy is what they did to Lola Bunny:

I still think it's funny that there was a Tweet complaining about the "reduction," but it was using a fan made "Rule 34" version of Lola which was much more curvy.
