They even cut off the feet in that picture. Classic Liefeld.

Yeah. It's not an officially confirmed thing though. We already know it's happening but it's not confirmed by Marvel by any visuals from the movie.

Lee may not be the best writer but he can tell a story by his visual. Liefeld can't tell a story in whatever form.
Agreed. Jim Lee's art is levels beyond Liefeld. Still pisses me off that he was so prominent w/ the DP movie coming out. Considering the DP that people love isn't his creation at all.

I was a die hard comic book collector and I guess somewhere after Image (maybe a year) was created. I stop and I have walked into a comic book store a couple of times... and I just can't seem to jump back in. The stories are all over the place and the new artist don't do it for me. I miss the days of John Burne, George Perez, Frank Miller, Romita Jr, Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane. Im sure Im missing a couple of those good artists. But nothing out there now looks good to me, at least not good enough to pull me in, even if the story is good.

You must not be looking hard enough. We've had some really good storytellers since Image came to be.
Off the top of my head. Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark on DD. Fucking great run. Great visuals too.
Brubaker and Lark also did Gotham Central. A fucking great run for DC.
Etc etc.
The big difference in ever finding another Bryne or Perez or whatever is that the culture that they birthed out of into popularity was much different than ours (I'm 29, dunno how old you are). Our world was built by those guys by a fuck ton. Now we've an insane amount of great creators but it's a big as fucking group to where what is amazing or great out of context may not be held so strongly in line w/ the standard of now. We're what? 2nd or 3rd generation from those creators? We don't have a chance of current creators standing out as strongly as those guys cuz the culture took the risks at that time. Look at what they came out of, the culture of the industry. And then look at the timeline you're playing with. How hard it is to stand out even the ability to create great stories. I'm not saying the generations in this era are better but at what became norm in the culture to stand out even when allowed. It became harder because of the standard by those greats.
There will never be a Miller, Perez, JRJr, Lee or whoever because of what those men did w/ what they could by the standard they could stand out of.

Plus there's a ton of stuff that's not superhero related. The art on Saga is great. Fables also has very consistent artwork, and the covers were the best in the industry for a while. Jae Lee (not a typo) also did some good covers, as well as some good Batman related artwork.

you're being woefully ignorant or pretentious to your masturbation of nostalgia.

I hate where they have taken my favorite comics X-Men, Spider-Man and some others I can't remember off the top of my head.
If you look at the artist I mention they all kinda come out in succession.. and since I kinda quit collecting, say around late 90's maybe early 2000. Give me a name of artist that can be added to that list. All the art look like shit now a days. Well, at least to me. heh

I'm not a big comics guy but I bought the first few New 52 "the Flash" collections(since I'm digging the show). The art is phenomenal. Fantastic story to go with as well.

The Batman titles had some really awful Chip Kidd logo designs and interior work that never matched the Bolland covers. Jim Lee illustrating Batman, and Cassaday on Astonishing X-Men got me back into comics for awhile.
In hindsight though there were some excellent artists out there:
Frank Quitely-New X-Men
Terry & Rachel Dodson-Harley Quinn.
Ethan Van Sciver-Green Lantern
David Finch-Moon Knight
Only bad thing is that the 90s Marvel/Image created the superstar artist era, so being late with work became acceptable. I think it took Frank Cho six months to finish one issue for Marvel comics. Later, the celebrity writer era who dabbled in writing comics also made work extremely late.
So books like the All-Star at DC line-up were created for artists and writers who were superstars and apparently needed two months to produce a 22 page comic, and that still wasn't enough. So for a casual comic reader you're not likely to see the really great Marvel/DC artists on a monthly title because they're more often not producing comics on time.
I think that's changed though because I've been seeing some really great art and coloring on Marvel and DC comics for the last couple years.

Bill Sienkiewicz did covers and interiors for New Mutants and later, Elektra: Assassin. Some amazing stuff. But like Snake said, different era. Back then top superhero comics were selling 500K and up. Lot of people were trying to break into the business and there was a lot of competition between the talent and the publishers. You had editors who, for better or worse, placed deadlines ahead of quality.

Ethan Van Sciver-Green Lantern
Loved his Frogman themed creator owned character from the mid-90's. Dude was a phenom.
