Cap 3 will win this pissing contest. WB simply lacks the gender fortitude to put on that much lean muscle mass in the next 25 months.

I am sure that one of the movies will be moved. It would hurt the box office numbers for BOTH of them if they open on the same day.

Having said that, at this point I would be more excited to see Captain America 3 than Batman/Superman, so that's the one I'd catch on the opening weekend.

Based on the creative teams on these two films... I'm totally with Cap 3 so much more than Bats vs. Supes. Feige, man. He is a genius at this shit.

if neither moved, that'd be a hell of a day at the movies.

I think that might be the biggest head to head we've had in a while. If ever. I can't think of something like that, at least not in size.

You can't see two movies in one weekend? I've done it plenty of times.

most people don't see 2 movies in a weekend. one will cannibalize the results for the other. so, someone will blink. my guess is it will be DC, but we'll see in a year or so.

Actually, not without spending a lot more money than I'm willing to spend.

I do the bargain matinee thing (that's the only way I can afford to take the family out for a movie and lunch), and as my wife works on Saturdays, that leaves only Sunday to go to the movies.

Most people don't go to two different movies in the same weekend, anyway.

That's why you don't see the head to head thing on the same opening weekend for similar movies. There are only so many movie ticket dollars to be spent on any given weekend, and to maximize the amount of tickets they can sell the major studios don't pit similar movies against each other on the same opening weekend.

So you know CA3 won't move since they chose that date, knowing which movie was already there. Essentially they threw down the challenge. It's up to DC to change.

I agree, Cap Tres will win because not only has Winter Soldier been critically acclaimed and commercially successful, but we'll see Cap again in Age of Ultron and you know that's going to gross another billion plus. The momentum is all with Marvel, and they know it.

And if they did come out head to head on the same weekend, I'd make it a point to pay to see Cap 3 three times and then wait a week to see Superman/Batman once, if at all.

Marvel actually already had that date before DC moved Bats vs. Supes there. They just hadn't officially announced which Phase 3 film it was.

So did WB not actually move the Superman/Batman release date like was mentioned? Or do we not know?

Of course it'll be DC/Warners that blinks. They seem to have little confidence in their "Justice League" project.

Well, as of right now, they aren't blinking: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/316...an-vs-superman

Marvel confirmed yesterday that they are sticking to a May 6th 2016 release date for "Captain America 3," putting it out on the same weekend as Warners' "Batman vs. Superman" film.

Now, Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman tells Bloomberg that in this game of release date chicken, they have no intention of flinching:

"It doesn't make a lot of sense for two huge superhero films to open on the same date but there is a lot of time between now and 5/6/16. However at this time, we are not considering a change of date for Batman vs. Superman."

Evercore Partners analyst Alan Gould also weighed in, saying: "I don't think the studios or the theaters would be happy to see this. I would be surprised if they didn't end up changing these dates," whilst Fox's president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson says: "A lot of films are announced many years in advance now, and some of it is posturing."

Someone should move their movie to the second week of June. Even if say one of them comes out the week before or after, they could still see as much as a 70% drop as a result.

Or move it up to the first week of April, as Cap 2 just showed you can open a big movie there.

With a Vengeance? Seriously? Red, White, and Blue Boogaloo would've been so perfect!

I'll be staying home and just having a big wank that weekend.

At this point you couldn't pay me to see either of those two films.

Boogaloo is for the second film in a series, because it rhymes with two.

I laugh at the thought of WB actually making any announced release date, much less this one. I'm sure Marvel feels the same way.

re: Captain America 3: Civil War (2016) (D: The Russo Bros) - News, Rumors, Cast

Variety tweeted a comment from Alan Horn about facing the Bats vs. Supes flick.

"We'll see. We're struggling with it" Alan Horn on #CaptainAmerica3 debuting against #BatmanvsSuperman
So Disney is getting worried but Feige seemed to be determined on holding onto that date. If I'm to compare the films preceding their sequel at this point. I'm totally in for Cap 3 first. I'd watch B vs. S some short time after.

Marvel has traditionally released movies on this date for years, why change now?

Cuz it is against another superhero film? One backed by WB.

I don't think Marvel will flinch. But should they both hold, it'll be an interesting weekend.

re: Captain America 3: Civil War (2016) (D: The Russo Bros) - News, Rumors, Cast

Well hasn't Batman vs Superman already changed date? I believe that it was originally looking to be released in 2015 until they realized that going against Avengers: Age of Ultron was a huge mistake. They then came up with some lame excuses and pushed the date back to the following year.

I guess the problem is that Hollywood seems to judge success on opening weekend alone. If thats the case then i think that this could be a very interesting match up, however who is to say that people cannot go see more than one movie over a Fri-Sun weekend. I think Marvel would do a great service to moving Cap 3 to an April release date like they have with CaP 2. Very little competition and sure to keep on making money for a while.

I think it both movies keep the same release date then they will both end up performing really well. I am sure the quality of Cap 3 will be high, i am very curious to see the quality of Batman vs Superman. I liked the Man of Steel, but it was very flawed. Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman made me have very little faith in that character on the big screen. Jesse Eisenberg at Luthor....he plays a douche bag in almost every movie, but Lex is supposed to be imposing and fearful. I very much doubt this will be a Heath Ledger type transformation, just more of the same minus hair. Ben Affleck as Batman is interesting. The big problem i think will be a decent story.

If one of them does move, then both of them will probably make a deal to swap or give dates for a good time slot in for a future movie. Neither party would move for free.
