American Hustle and Wolf of Wall Street as comedies? Sounds desperate to get a nomination to be lumped in there. Strange.

How so? American Hustle is a comedy from my understanding (at least it has been referred as one for a while), Wolf of Wall Street looks like a comedy in the ads.

The summary on Rotten Tomatoes (the movie currently has a 96% with 46 reviews): Riotously funny and impeccably cast, American Hustle compensates for its flaws with unbridled energy and some of David O. Russell's most irrepressibly vibrant direction.

Hanks nominated for Uncle Walt instead of Captain Phillips is a surprise as well. Thought the Saving Mr Banks role would compete in the Supporting category.

And Saving Mr Banks is considered a drama but the trailer makes it look rather jovial to me.

I hear Tom Hanks doesn't even smoke as Walt Disney. Piss poor acting.

Hanks's performance as Disney is chilling. Truly, he is suspended a head above the other nominees.

Re: 71st annual Golden Globes Film nominations

Captain Phillips Hanks was nominated for Captain Phillips for Lead Actor, not Saving Mr. Banks.

I thought Gravity was extremely average, so that's one film I'm hoping doesn't rack up on Oscar night. Once again, the Actor categories are loaded again this year.

Thank God. I thought for sure Oprah would be nominated simply for being Oprah.

I loved Gravity so I would be happy if it was successful on Oscar night but I honestly don't see it winning a lot of the major awards. It'll kill in the technical categories, visual effects, sound design, etc. I think the best chance it has for a major award is for Sandra Bullock winning best actress but I don't even think that will happen.

I want to live in a world where Gravity actually is Average. There would be some epically awesome movies.

I like to this was a typo and her performance in The Heat would have been nominated.

Re: 71st annual Golden Globes Film nominations

Rush was quite good, glad to see it up there. People who dismissed it just because of Ron Howard are missing out. Bullock will be shut out here and for the rest of the season. Didn't expect Her to be so acclaimed but it's been racking up awards the last week or so.

Reviews have been labeling them as black comedies, as do their trailers, so what's the problem?

I wanted to see it but it wasn't in theaters very long and was never at a theater or showtime that was convenient to me. I wish I'd made more of an effort to see it.
