He's obviously too old now to play Indy, but they SHOULD give him a role in the reboot. At the very least Lucas and Spielberg owe him a movie. Wasn't there talk at one point (maybe around LAST CRUSADE time) that Selleck might be playing Indy's brother? Then it died off...maybe when they decided to put his father in the film instead.

Corey Carrier should be about the right age to take over, for continuity sake....

That's ridiculous... it's either The Rock, Nathan Fillion or Danny McBride.

What about Ryan Reynolds?

(Actually ... one of your picks would work.)

I can't imagine an Indiana Jones film not scored by John Williams. He definitely played a role in the unity of the first 3, and possibly the only thing that felt right about Crystal Skull.

No. I don't think the series is adaptable.

Nathan Fillion fits the role for so many things. And geeks go crazy when he's cast in something.

How about just salvage any precious ideas that were already developed, and make an original non-Indy film? The name doesn't guarantee success. Actually, I think it constricts artistic freedom. You can have great ideas, and be constricted to the same specific feel and style.

I'd probably be kicked out of a producer's meeting if I brought up an idea like that.

I wouldn't be unhappy with Nathan.

I have also thought they should just go with a non-Indy movie but I disagree that the name doesn't guarantee success. Crystal Skull wasn't that great of a movie but it still made almost $800 million worldwide.

Re: Indiana Jones 5 - Rumors, Casting, etc...

Did it? Thats. Terrible.

Spielberg has joked about wanting to lose a few of his negatives in a vault fire. I thought Indy 4 was one of the turds.

There comes a point when a film series is tied to it's era. I don't think it's good to be tied to reliving a specific feeling. Spielberg hit a stride with movies like Catch Me If You Can, Minority Report, Munich, etc. I don't like to see anyone tied down to reproducing their movies over and over.

I still don't think Indy IV is as bad as everyone seems to claim. Worst of the four movies? Sure. But only because the other three are really good. Indy IV is the "Rocky V" of the series (so far), but it's not that bad. It's still better than four of the six STAR WARS films.

I think a lot of the hatred was that Spielberg promised a realistic, back to basics Indy movie for the "fans" and then gave us the least plausible and nonsensical story of the four, and Spielberg just had to put Shia LeSuck in it, and frickin' aliens, completely forgetting what made Indy so great to begin with.

Three. ROTJ is weak, but it still has more good stuff in it than KOTKS. By far. I actually don't object to the alien stuff so much (It's hardly any more far-fetched than the box of ghosts, the magic stones, or the cup that grants immortality), and it's not like it had him running around a saucer or something, it was basically just something to move the plot forward and didn't even do any space stuff until the end. It's just that the whole movie feels like warmed up leftovers coasting on audience good will and nostalgia, and the CG really makes the film feel plastic and fake in places. Spielberg being Spielberg, he was way ahead of the curve and since the. We've had tons of nostalgia-fueled flicks with over the hill action stars doing stunts and then complaining about their hips. I didn't mind Shia that much, and it was good to see Ford back in the hat, the whole thing just felt perfunctory. I just got the sense that Spielberg's heart wasn't in it. The age of those movies, of that kind of blockbuster, is just gone. And Indy belongs in a museum with it. He's such a static character-not that that's a bad thing-that they couldn't really risk reinventing him, and the whole movie felt out of days and made the new-style FX incongruous as a result.

Absolutely.

This might be Speilberg's worst film, and there's a lot to choose from.

I'll never get the hate for the aliens. Made sense and still jived with the Indy nature of adventure.

Here's how I can rationalize and appreciate the aliens:

Indiana Jones movies reflect the films of the era in which the IJ story takes place.

The original trilogy was a serial-like, swashbuckling adventure that took place in the 1930s... a time when people saw such serials during their matinees.

In the 1950s, people went to drive-ins to see b-grade monster and alien movies. Guess what, IJ&TKotCS is a b-grade alien movie taking place in the 1950s.

So ideally, IJ5 will take place in the 1960s and be along the lines of a Frankie & Annette beach movie.

Re: Indiana Jones 5 - Rumors, Casting, etc...

Is cinematographer Janusz Kaminski working on Indiana Jones 5 next?

Yesterday in Page 2 I dropped a link to a Variety article titled Top Cinematographers Offer Online Course on Filmmaking . Like many of the articles I include in Page 2, I didn’t get a chance to read the whole thing as that would then extend the handful of hours I work on Page 2 to a whole working day. I just pick and choose the minor news we didn’t have a chance to cover on the site and the articles that sound interesting. Well /Film reader Mike H did read the article and noticed the following paragraph:

Since then, Kaminski has made more than a dozen films with Steven Spielberg, earning two Oscars along the way. His credits include “Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan” and “The Diving Bell & the Butterfly.” His next project is the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie.

Now its no surprise that Janusz Kaminski would be working on Indiana Jones 5 as he is a constant collaborator of Steven Spielberg. But the interesting thing is that this article claims that Kaminski’s next collaboration with Spielberg will be on a fifth Indiana Jones film, as if that is already on the schedule. Of course, the paragraph and claim in question isn’t clearly attributed to Kaminski, but it appears the article was written from interviews with the cinematographers who were part of the seminar.

We do know that Disney acquired the rights to both Star Wars and the Indiana Jones franchises. In March 2014, it was rumored that Disney was looking to reboot the franchise and are looking at replacing star Harrison Ford with a new actor as Indiana Jones with Bradley Cooper topping the wish list. We heard that same day that the reboot rumors were false from a very reliable source. Its been rumored that Harrison Ford is very interested in reprising the role of Indiana Jones again.

Damn. I was hoping this was finally happening.

I hope it happens soon and with Ford. I've no interest in anyone else as Dr. Jones.

Re: Indiana Jones 5 - Rumors, Casting, etc...

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s one from the helluva good idea department. Marvel offerings are soaring and Star Wars is being reinvigorated by director JJ Abrams. Now, Disney has just started to turn its attention to reviving the Indiana Jones franchise after buying the rights from Paramount in 2013. I’m cautioned that while things are very early, I hear the studio has set its sights on Chris Pratt as the swashbuckling archaeologist they hope to build the new franchise around, the role made famous by Harrison Ford in Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Pratt jumped to leading man movie status with his performance in last year’s blockbuster Guardians Of The Galaxy for Marvel and Disney. He starts The Magnificent Seven with Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua in April for MGM and Sony, and there’s the inevitable Guardians Of The Galaxy sequel. Disney won’t comment and all this is admittedly early, so let’s chalk it up as a dishy informed rumor for now and keep an eye on it.

Pratt seems like a safe choice at the moment. I could see it working out well though.

Harrison Ford is the only Indiana Jones. End of fucking discussion. Just call this, whatever it turns out to be, something else.
