I have to agree. The camera crews are bad enough but then you also see a bunch of assholes recording him with their cell phones.

^ it was posted in this thread so I watched it. I didn't go online to seek it out nor did I stick a camera in a grieving person's face. I think there's a difference.
If I had heard Tyrese was there paying his respects but no video footage existed I would have been perfectly ok with it.

Re: Paul Walker has died.
There is so much sadness surrounding this tragedy. The loss of life, the dramatic shifting of lives for families. I've been disheartened by the jokes I've seen on Facebook and the slew of people recording Tyrese (I watched it a few seconds and turned it off). There was a time when I was quick with a joke when someone died. Now I just don't see much humor in it. It's not a coping mechanism for me, anymore. I think there are healthier ways to cope.
That hoax or not a hoax business in that first 24 hours was particularly tricky. Perhaps that's what perpetuated some of the tasteless jokes or maybe they would have happened anyway, who knows. Either way, it only further complicated what was already complex and senseless.
Paul always struck me as a nice guy in life outside the movies. I honestly don't remember him being part of any of the black hole of Hollywood gossip. As for his work, I enjoyed him in everything I saw him in: Joy Ride, Into the Blue, Varsity Blues, Pleasantville. Joy Ride is phenomenal, I think. Never saw the Fast and the Furious movies; always seemed like "car movies" and I'm not a big car guy. Maybe I'll give them a shot, if people here say they're worth a look.

Re: Paul Walker has died.
More than the lack of confirmation was the fact that he died in a fiery car crash. Given what he's famous for, that alone is going to invite tons of jokes.

Re: Paul Walker has died.
I did comedy improv performance and teaching for around ten years or so (in retirement with so much school and now kids) and we talk a lot about that trusting one's instincts. It's all about choices on that stage and whether you go with your first impulse or not. Almost always, it's about first impulse. And sometimes it's about waiting for something better to come along. Meaning, sometimes there is the obvious joke, the easy bit, the low hanging fruit. And that's a choice one could make and if it's the first instinct, well there ya go. Yes, and there's also something to be said about waiting for something to develop, see what happens, go somewhere new and, potentially, stronger.
I would say those jokes? Low-hanging fruit.
Comedy's formula used to also be tragedy + time = comedy. With instant communication via the web, etc. bringing us to a point where anyone can say anything to anyone immediately in ways that used to be unimaginable, "time" is no longer in that equation in the same way. But tragedy - time =/= comedy. Tragedy - time = low-hanging fruit.

Re: Paul Walker has died.
I know, 'Mallet. I think one of the frustrating things for me is that I am left wondering if the same people who make those sorts of jokes about someone dying are also sometimes the people who would be so upset if something like that happened to them, while also being the first to call other people on their hypocrisies. Hypocrisy has got to be the number one thing I hear people gripe about and while obviously I'm speculating and generalizing, I don't doubt there's at least a few people who are making tasteless jokes about Paul Walker, would get pissed off if someone made jokes about someone who they knew who died, and are also quick to point out someone else's hypocrisy. Maybe it's unfair of me to make such a presumptuous generalization.
Of course, everyone in the world is a hypocrite except for me, though, so I can say that with impunity...

Re: Paul Walker has died.
I once made a joke about a celebrity death to a person who was actually friends with that celebrity. That taught me a thing or two real fast.

Yikes, no good. Story time? Or maybe go start a foot-in-mouth thread and share?
