Jason X is a modern masterpiece. A sci-fi/horror classic.

What I'd prefer is something shot on 35mm that has the gritty look that the series' entries during the '80s had, not the overly glossy stuff we got with the 2009 version. Bonus points for practical effects.

I think they actually do shoot on 35mm, it's trust to trussed up with green grungy music video cinematography and flashy editing and CG that it doesn't have that look. Is Bay a holdout on 35mm? He's friends with Lucas and Cameron, I'd assume he'd jump to digital pretty quickly, especially as much as he loves filters, lenses, FX, and so forth. I always tend to think of Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects. I'm not entirely sure it holds together as a whole, but it has that 70s aesthetic style down really well-grainy super 16mm, 70s Southern rock soundtrack, and a real sense of grime. It's a bit one-note because it hasn't absorbed any of the social context from the movies it wants to emulate, but at least it has them down stylistically.

Re: Untitled Friday the 13th film (3/13/15)

The only thing I liked about the remake was Adult Jason, the kills, and the tits. Mears was fucking awesome as Jason. CLM made me LOVE him. Like he is such a cool guy. His enthusiasum is so engrossing that I was happy for him to be Jason.

But yeah..good tits and kills. I know this may be crazy but I'd love a story to give a damn about. I LOVE Jason..but HATE his movies. He's a great iconic bastard but if it's not him just killing...it's really shitty for his films. Like they're eyerolling to a large degree due to how shitty the scripts are. I know it's Jason...but c'mon... it can't be that hard to make a better script for the mongoloid.

Well at least it's moving forward, it will be nice to have Jason on screen again. I actually think the found footage idea could be interesting, but I don't want to see it. FF movies are nothing more than gimmicks and you don't need a gimmick for Friday the 13th. Jason and the name are draws enough.

The problem I'd have with found footage is I don't see how they'd really work it in to the story. Unless the camp got a major overhaul and had security cameras all over the place or something or one of the camp counselors or victims conveniently was filming the entire time. That's why I don't think found footage always really works. Certain movies that use it as a major part of their premise like The Blair Witch Project or the Paranormal Activity films work fine but others it just feels forced in because it's the trendy thing to do now.

I am hoping for 3d done right, the snow idea could be interesting, and I would enjoy a story with a certain sleaziness to it similar to Friday 5.

What's interesting is that Paramount is referring to this film as Friday the 13th (2015), which seems to imply it may be another reboot.

I think Bay shot Pain & Gain with RED cameras and some of those prosumer cameras like they did with the Crank films. At least the majority of the film he did.

I own three F13 movies on Blu-ray. The original, Freddy vs. Jason, and the reboot. If I ever found an absurdly cheap deal on 2-7, I'd grab them too, but they're not a priority.

Lots of love for these movies here. I get it's kind of a nostalgia thing....but the films are crap. Even the first one. Pure shit. Terrible horror films. Especially compared to the likes of the original TCM, Halloween, or Black Sunday.

They're great fun, pure 80s slashers that don't make you feel dirty while watching like the current crop of torture porn flicks.

So the question is if you don't like them why did you come in here to post that? Just to thread crap? It's a fun franchise with a lot of fans, I don't think anyone is going around claiming these films are masterpieces or anything but they're definitely fun movies I and a bunch of others enjoy watching. For being cheesy slasher films they work fine and if you go in to them expecting them to be more than that you're obviously going to be disappointed.

Sorry. I get your point, but surely there is room for differing opinions about the about the quality of these films? If that's not the the case then we might as well do away with discussion forums. I understand a lot of people hold these movies close to their heart for varying reasons. To counter your assertion ...some people in these parts actually do consider these films masterpieces. I obviously don't hold them in such high regard.

PS. I meant to write Black Christmas not Black Sunday in my original post...
the Bava film I should have referenced was Twitch of the Death Nerve.

Not saying you can't have differing opinions but to come in here saying things like they're pure shit and terrible horror films in a thread about an upcoming entry in the series kind of seems to be geared at getting a rise out of people. I certainly don't view the series as great filmmaking (and I guess I don't know many who do but I'm sure they're out there) but like I said I find them fun.

You are right Mike86. I did come in here half cocked and tossed some bombs.
Trust me, I like my share of movies that many would consider pure crap.

Going to back off and slink away slowly through the back door now.

I still can't see anyone using the expression "You have perfect nipple placement" in real life, it's just an odd expression .

I'd assume DOTM was shot digitally if it was 3-D? Given that Bay likes to work really fast, I'd assume he'd embrace digital pretty quickly.

The fun truly has left the forum.

Yeah Jason X really isn't that terrible. It isn't my favorite entry in the series and it's cheesy as hell but it's fun to watch. Much better than New Line's other attempt, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday.

Jason Takes Manhattan is prime cheese. The reaction of Jason when the water is coming towards him in the sewer at the end of the film is priceless. And he's a disfigured freak!

For sure, the biggest problem I have with Jason Takes Manhattan is the fact that most of the movie takes place on the damn boat. The idea of Jason actually in Manhattan was pretty cool but it was basically wasted. I still enjoy it though. I pretty much enjoy all the Paramount entries in the series to be honest. My least favorite is probably A New Beginning but even that I don't really hate.
