Re: Slant Magazine's 100 Greatest Horror Films Of All Time
I remember reading that director Alan Parker had difficulty cutting the orgy sequence into the movie because what he filmed would have made the already controversial sex scene between Rourke and Bonet (what ever happened to her?) pale in comparison.

Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 is a strange one. I have to sheepishly admit I *almost* liked it. I think it's because I absolutely despised RZ's first Halloween film so much... that this batshit crazy sequel allowed me to completely disconnect it from the original series and whatever baggage came with that, and just sort of go along with the ride. Not saying it's a great film, and certainly not top 100 material by any means), but it didn't leave me seething like the first one did.

Not sure I'd put Evil Dead II so high on the list (if at all). It's more comedy than horror anyway. Also, the original The Thing is missing altogether.

I've always thought the original Evil Dead was far superior to the sequel. I'd place part 1 on a top 100 list any day over Evil Dead II. At least this list got the order in which they're ranked correct. Though I agree, part II is ranked awful high.

I'd rank Black Christmas, The Hitcher and The Blair Witch Project much higher. Inside belongs nowhere near a "best of" list. I used to be a fan of Opera, but the more I've watched it, it's fallen out of my good graces. Of Argento's boom period, easily his weakest film. I agree with the list on not including The Descent. It's decent enough until the creatures show up, then it goes to shit in a hurry. Nice to see Rosemary's Baby in the top three.

Should be higher:
The Exorcist (easily #1)
Alien
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
The Changeling
The Blair Witch Project
Nice to see so high:
The Fly (1986)
Should be lower:
Rosemary’s Baby
Shouldn’t be on the List:
Halloween II (2009)
New, but deserving:
The Conjuring
The Exorcist (easily #1)

The Blair Witch Project

YES! A ridiculous omission.
Also:
Picnic at Hanging Rock: perhaps not a straight-up jump-scare horror / slasher film, but no film I've seen does a better job about amping up subtly creepy tension and genuinely disturbing psychological suspense. It's a haunting movie.
Dog Soldiers: sort of a low budget Aliens with werewolves. Awesome werewolf design, awesome sound design, full of manic set pieces that very effectly balance terror and humor.
