When I saw Halloween II in there, I thought "Wow, finally someone else respects Rosenthal's underrated sequel," but then I saw that they meant Rob Zombie's 2009 sequel. rotfl

The top 10 is pretty good, although The Exorcist should always be ranked #1.

And Suspiria is the most overrated horror film I've ever seen.

I love the original Halloween II. I've always thought it was a great extension of the original story. Almost as good, if not as good as the original.

I third chadm's appreciation of Halloween II, second Charlie Goose's dismissal of Suspiria (but not his irrational love for The Exorcist, which is, in fact, the most overrated, unscary horror movie ever), and second Mondo's thumb for Deathdream. Mondo, don't bother with Trouble Every Day; it's garbage.

It's an OK list, imo. I'm pleased to see a few nominal rarities on there, but Fulci shouldn't be anywhere near a top-100 list, and the only list on which Sleepaway Camp belongs is a worst-of-all-time round-up.
The Vanishing, Black Christmas, and a bunch of others should be way higher, and others lower. I'm glad to see the underrated Wolf Creek on there, but there's plenty of stuff missing and plenty of stuff I wouldn't include.
Hell, it's just some guy's list.

This is a terrible list and I would have to question if the people behind it really even like horror films. An absolutely terrible list that seems to reserve many of the higher spots for oddball films from other genres and older movies that probably don't deserve their rank. The modern films which do rank higher are laughable.

Rob Zombie's Halloween II is one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life in any genre. I didn't even bother to read the rest of the list once I saw this was on there.

Instead of speaking in generalities, let's see your list. I look at what's ON the list rather than it's rank. Ranking is always subjective. Saying it's an "absolutely terrible list" is like saying most of the movies don't belong on the list at all. So, let's see your perfect list.

Halloween 2 1980, I think is one of the best horror movie sequals.

The Exorcist frightens me terribly.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is an interesting inclusion, I agree the movie has enough frightening/creepy moments to call it horror. I wish they had jettisoned the awful first half-hour (the mirror image Twin Peaks stuff with Chris Issak and Jack Bauer) and had the movie start right with Laura.

I respect your opinion Norm, but I'm going to have to disagree strongly with your assertion here. I think The Exorcist is a masterpiece.

The technical merits alone put in the top tier of horror films ever made. The acting is top notch from Von Sydow, to Burstyn to Miller to the supporting turns by Lee. J Cobb and Jack MacGowran.

The film always fills me with a sense of dread and foreboding.
I first saw this when I was 11 and it really made an impact on me and singlehandedly piqued my interest in film.
So this film holds a special place in my heart. Yeah, sorry don't mean to get sentimental here. :)

I actually think it's a pretty good list to be honest. Some of the placement of titles I don't agree with but pretty much all the movies listed are good or ones that I'd want to see. The biggest headscratcher there for me is Rob Zombie's Halloween II which I despised but the rest of the list is damn good. Also I agree that the original Halloween II is fantastic and one of the best overall sequels (horror or otherwise) ever made.

One of my memories of The Exorcist was the first time I saw it at a theater. This was back in the days when single-screen theaters roamed the Earth. We were in lobby waiting for the previous showing to end. Suddenly we could hear the movie and all the yelling and screams. They had the sound system cranked. But just the sounds we were hearing were enough to unnerve us. Then the looks on the people's faces as they filed past us. When we walked in to be seat we were even more apprehensive of what awaited us.

Ringu - Still my favorite Japanese horror film.

Ju-On - The girl alone in the apartment still creep me out.

Night of the Demon - Should been on the list.

Horror of Dracula - Christopher Lee ruled as the Prince of Darkness.

Phantom of the Opera - The unmasking of Lon Chaney's face is a classic.

Very disturbing to see a 12 year old raped and brutalized (think about it because that's what it is) by a demon. Also the psychological torment and testing of faith that Damien Karras goes through makes Friedkin's interpretation of Blatty's excellent novel a horror masterpiece.
