Most "Fun" Horror Film Franchise?

with Halloween displays now be set up at the local marts and the Friday the 13th Box Set coming out on Blu, i thought i would pose this question of what you think is the most "Fun" franchise...

that doesn't mean most frightening, or horrorfying, most well done, but the one franchise that you get the most fun out of...

asked me years ago and i would have said the Nightmare on Elm Street series hands down, but as the years have passed i got more into the Friday the 13th movies as just pure fun.

hell, i like Jason X and JGTH! Jason X is like my #1 "so bad i love it" movies.

so with the looming Friday box set coming out next week (that i am now eagerly anticipating, despite its flaws in movie cuts), i have to say that this franchise is what i enjoy the most becuase of the inventive kills, the insane plots or lack thereof, the effects, the cheese and all the rest...

Re: Most "Fun" Horror Film Franchise?

I like all of them that I've seen.

Evil Dead - Proven classic. Don't see why this wouldn't have 90% of the votes.

Resident Evil - Modern throwaway sci-fi horror. Completely stupid. A new coincidence or macguffin every five minutes. Good fun. Except that last one, which I felt betrayed by.

Hatchet - I heard mixed things about this. But haven't watched it.

House - No House? I always watched House 1 and 2 when I was younger.

Re: Most "Fun" Horror Film Franchise?

My gut said go with Friday the 13th -- the original was the first horror film I remember viewing. However, the Scream series seems to fit the profile of "fun" better with the way it references other horror movies.

Re: Most "Fun" Horror Film Franchise?

I love the Evil Dead franchise but I couldn't vote for it. The first one was straight horror, and not very fun at all. The third one is a straight comedy, and doesn't have any moments that are scary. I think only Evil Dead 2 qualifies as a "fun horror" movie.

So I went with Friday the 13th, that's the kind of movie where you actually root for the monster and cheer when he starts killing off douchebag campers. There's also some great comedic relief in entries like number 6.

Blade is a horror franchise?

For me? ED. liked the remake, loved the first 2, and I'm ok with ED3.

I'm going with Friday the 13th. Those movies are the perfect movies to watch with a crowd or friends with pizza and beer. NOES seemed to see saw between fun, and just stupid. Same with the Child's Play movies.

I've been a lifelong fan of the F13th franchise, so that'd be my pick. They run the gamut from serious horror to straight-up tongue-in-cheek humor, all with varying results. I can't get enough.

Saw is my favorite. They weren't all great movies, but I enjoyed that it was essentially 1 movie broken up into 7 parts. Not many horror franchises are so closely linked.

While I am a huge fan of most choices, I picked Hatchet simply because it was fun.
The over the top gore and blood. It's chuckle worthy moments of good campy humor.
It wasn't to be taken seriously even though many who watched them thought it was supposed to be.
The ridiculous kills were great. You got tons of blood and outlandish gore. You knew they had fun making the films.

Re: Most "Fun" Horror Film Franchise?

Friday the 13th for me by far. The films all have that goofy 80s slasher vibe to them that just makes them fun films to watch. To me the films are all decent to varying degrees. The first is the best film probably but to me the sequels are all pretty fun to varying degrees with The Final Chapter and Jason Lives being my favorites. Really the first eight are all pretty good, Jason Goes to Hell is the worst, Jason X is okay but was never my favorite, and Freddy vs. Jason is alright but kind of a disappointment to me. To me Freddy vs. Jason felt more like a part of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise with Jason guest starring. The remake is meh to me. I wanted to like it but the prologue is the best part of it and it kind of is downhill from there.

Halloween is probably my next favorite. I think the first four films are all really good with the original obviously being the best. The fifth one isn't the greatest but it's still watchable enough. I think that The Curse of Michael Myers and Halloween Resurrection are probably the worst in the series. Halloween: H20 is also a pretty decent entry.

Re: Most "Fun" Horror Film Franchise?

Evil Dead trilogy, without question. All three are favorites of the genre, and entertainment galore.

Next would be Friday the 13th, just love this series overall. Some are barely watchable (JgtH and FvJ), but I watch at least 3-4 every time a Friday the 13th rolls around.

As for some of the other choices, can't see how they are even listed. Of course everyone's opinion is different, but some of these franchises become tedious and a chore to sit through as the series progresses:
Hellraisers
Children of the Corn
Puppet Master
Howling

I'm glad someone else feels the same way about this. The card scene, the pencil sequence, Shelly's long scream, the demonic tauntings (Which were much more light-hearted in Part 2) All that shit still gets to me.

As VHS? noted, if it weren't for not having seen Part 3, I might've gone with Hatchet. Those first 2 were fun to me.

But I think I'm going to go ahead and vote for F13th. Part 2's the only installment that comes close to providing some fear, but it's outweighed by all the other fun sequels.

The IT'S ALIVE trilogy directed by Larry Cohen. Who can't love killer mutant children? Needs a Blu-ray release so badly along with his THE STUFF.

I need to see these at some point. I've heard a lot of good things about them and that they feel like throwback 80s slasher films.
