UNDER THE SKIN (2013) (dir. Jonathan Glazer) (Scarlett Johansson, Paul Brannigan)

This movie actually rates pretty high with professional critics on rotten tomatoes. (avg 7.5/10) Compared to all the other crap I've rented from Redbox in the last few months, I'm inclined to agree with them. Only 2 movies I've rented in the last year that I considered as good or better than "Under The Skin". "Blaming a weak lineup of movies coming to DVD, Redbox turned in some disappointing results for the second quarter. Company operating income dropped from $107.2 million in the same period last year to $83.5 million."

Sort of a mixed bag for me.
I am glad I saw it, and thought the ending was quite good and provided context to everything before.
Scarlett was awesome I thought in this.
I did think it was a little "too" artsy. I thought there could have been some more "grounding" elements that would have not necessarily taken away from the eerie tone.
The ending visual was incredibly good.
I was reasonably shocked at the erections in an R movie. They weren't even subtle, even seemed to be highlighted. Almost wonder if the ratings board fell asleep or something.
Question: was this filmed over time or with reshoots spaced significantly apart? Scarlett looked noticeably slimmer in some of the later scenes.

Why would an erection be grounds for anything other than an R? It didn't show any actual sex or penetration.
The movie was filmed in 2011, so it probably had some re-shoots down the line.

I have always heard that regardless of context that was an instant NC-17. Not remembering seeing it before in R. Don't really care, just surprised.

Just a heads up, guys.
This one is playing on Amazon Instant Video. Never got to see this one but it sounded pretty cool.

Thinking back on the flicks I saw in 2014. Boyhood was my favorite, but the one movie that I couldn't get out of my mind is Under The Skin. So strange, uncomfortable to watch and totally unforgettable. Story makes a lot of sense to me after it was all over. This pup destroys Lucy.

Finally watched this.
I can't say I loved it, but I'm glad I watched it.
That beach scene, though. Super uncomfortable. It definitely drove the point home about what the characters were really like.
I'm sure I'll watch it again someday. Not in a rush to do that, though.

Goddamn.
This movie is a hell of a thing. I'm at the 47 minute mark and... there is a lot of shit going on w/ this world and the woman.
Random thing I noticed. A lot of fat fucks in Scotland apparently.
So far I really really dig the film.

Yeah, watch the beginning of Filth, gives you a nice overview of modern day Scotland.

Damn. Very Kubrick but also something else. Foreign from it all in a way. It does stay w/ you. Really fucked up in many ways. Really impressed by it.
Really solid. That undertone to it all reminded me of a film from the 1970s that I can't remember. This disturbing look on man from a foreign source. Really liked the end.
I want to read the book, how different is it from the film?

Overrated arthouse tripe, propped up by Scarlett Johansson's nudity. Some of the accents are nearly indecipherable.

I dunno how it's overrated, I think it has like a 1 out of 5 on Redbox.com.
I showed up for the nudity, stayed for the great film making and solid acting
