Saw this at our local film festival on the weekend - quite liked it but at the same time not sure I'll ever watch it again, disturbing and eerie and beautiful all at once. The guy behind me actually has the best succinct review of it I've heard: "Now they've made a sequel to The Man Who Fell To Earth."

One of my Redbox rentals. I wouldn't even try to review it. If not for the Scarlett Johanson nude scenes, I doubt this movie would be getting as much attention as it is. Just too off beat.

I'm watching this now and am actually intrigued. It really does pick up after the 12 minute mark. Ha!

Looking at Amazon reviews its currently 149 One Stars (I hate it) to 73 Five Stars (I love it).
I think with a little effort this movie could have been a Sci-Fi masterpiece. Maybe some human perspective (like a detective investigating missing persons). Or some character development of ANY humans. Hard to care what happens when you have an emotionless alien surrounded by human props.
Kind of off topic, but with an over zealous MPAA rating movies, I was shocked this movie didn't receive an X rating. It seems like virtually any content suggesting or implying sex, drug use, or foul language will be slapped with an R rating. Not the first time I've seen frontal nudity in a movie, but I don't recall any movie showing erections unless it is XXX porn.
I really wish the MPAA would just go away and the studios would just issue their own warnings "may not be suitable for all ages", etc. I think the MPAA is destroying the movie industry.

I disagree, the lack of a human to latch onto was part of what made this so unique. You have to accept the alien on her own terms or not at all.

I don't get the emotionless complaints and feel like the second half had a ton of it.

Spoiler:
I believe that movie had a simple R rating.

Saw it last night and have to say that this film along with Moon, Primer and Beyond the Black Rainbow are some of the best sci-fi films of the last 10 years.
It evokes the haunting beauty and themes of films by Stanley Kubrick, Andrei Tarkovsky & Nicolas Roeg. Definitely in the top 10 of 2014.
4.5/5

Hey Man, don't let the folks who loved this film pressure you into liking it more than you should. You know better than anyone else what YOU like and what YOU don't like.

Just finished this, and man was it good. Went in totally cold, not knowing anything about it. So happy I didn't read anything about it first, as I didn't know if she was human, alien, demon, robot, or what.

Redboxed this and thought it was ok. Visually and especially the audio reminded a lot of a David Lynch movie as another poster said. I did like how she seemed to become more "human" as the film progressed but ultimately it was just too obscure for its own good. My wife absolutely hated it. After reading about the plot of the book couldn't help but think it could be improved with some more elements of the book thrown in.

She sure looked great in those tight jeans (and without them).

I really had a hard time watching that baby on the beach. It was really upsetting for me. Then when the cleaner guy goes back. Goddammit. I almost turned it off just to avoid anymore possible heartwrench from the beach. Fuck.
Weird movie. Good FX.

This movie actually rates pretty high with professional critics on rotten tomatoes. (avg 7.5/10)
Compared to all the other crap I've rented from Redbox in the last few months, I'm inclined to agree with them. Only 2 movies I've rented in the last year that I considered as good or better than "Under The Skin".
"Blaming a weak lineup of movies coming to DVD, Redbox turned in some disappointing results for the second quarter. Company operating income dropped from $107.2 million in the same period last year to $83.5 million."

I have watched this movie a few more times and its one of those movies that really sticks in the mind (and i am not referring to Scarlets bits). The way it is filmed, acted and the music make it almost dream like. The Alien is very creepy looking, but very similar in style to a lot of Glazers other work. The scenes with the Pit are creepy as hell, especially when they are floating. The tube leading to the otherside is simple but very effective.
It did seem to me that the first couple of guys that she takes to the Pit are both clocked in at 10 to 2 if you catch my drift.
