Re: When it all goes wrong
NoDuring the production of "Star Wars", the majority of the actors and crew thought it was a laughably awful B-movie. John Cameron is the king of this: both "Titanic" and "Avatar" had hugely negative press prior to release and yet they are the two of the most financially successful films of all time.
I thought that both the Titanic and Avatar were incredibly bad ideas for ridiculously expensive movies that would be total flops, yet both of them are undeniably good. Maybe not 100% deserving of the BO they did get, but they far exceeded my expectations. He is a terrific filmmaker. What's interesting is I have no interest in Avatar 2 or 3, and think they will be huge flops, too. I wonder if he will prove me wrong 2 more times.

The Mortal Instruments seems to be a movie where everything went wrong. Although VERY derivative the book is fun and should have made a fun movie. But the script was bad, the tone was all wrong, they made numerous changes to the source material all of which significantly worse, the cinematography was bad, the whole mood was off, acting was bad....It is a complete mess, and should have been a decent enough film to watch.
