Luthor always plays his father's son in most modern incarnations. Bet it Alexander Luthor or Lionel Luthor or whatever. This is keeping in line with that.
Some are suggesting that he's Lex Luthor in a cloned younger body, a la the early 90s comics when Lex was dying of Kryptonite-ring induced cancer and had a new body cloned, claiming to be his son.
And I'm going full Taffer again...

Great so Lex is dead, Robin is dead, Batman is old. Maybe I missed the first 10 movies in the DCCU

That makes a bit more sense but it sort of seems like a last minute swerve given that detail hasn't been given prior to now and we've been led to believe that he's just playing Lex Luthor.

Didnt they try this plot thread in the two Amazing Spiderman movies with Oscorp? That series didn't turn out too great in the end. I am still gonna be there opening weekend for this one though.

So much of this film already feels really messy and convoluted. This is why there should have been more films establishing the DCCU rather than just throwing the audience into an established universe.

They should continue all TV shows separate. This way they can do an eventual Crisis movie between the TV/Film properties, rebooting everything when they mess the films up.

'Batman v Superman' Will Not Be A 'Dark Knight Returns' Adaptation, Says Zack Snyder
Despite the trailer showing an armored, older Batman facing down the Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder promises that next year's cinematic clash of the titans won't be an adaptation of Frank Miller's classic comic book series The Dark Knight Returns.
While Snyder admitted to Comic Book Resources that the visuals for next year's follow-up to Man of Steel takes some visual cues from Miller's much-loved 1980s comic book — "Dark Knight Returns was such a big influence on me, that I wanted to to honor him through imagery in the movie" — he denied rumors that the central story is the source for Batman v Superman.
"You could still make Dark Knight Returns into a movie, if you want," he said. "That's what I'm saying, as far as how much we used and how much we didn't use. The visual elements, there are some that I homage, but I don't think the movie [is an adaptation]… Definitely [an] influence."
The Dark Knight Returns tells the story of a retired Bruce Wayne resuming his crime fighting career after 10 years, only to find himself facing opposition from the U.S. Government, climaxing in a conflict between the caped crusader and Superman. (Batman wins, of course; it's his comic book, after all.) The series remains one of the most popular Batman stories ever told, with DC Entertainment launching a second follow-up, Dark Knight III: The Master Race, next month.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released March 25, 2016.

I don't think any one of us that is sane thought it was a DKR adaptation. We do know it took cues from it though.

There were people here complaining about (their perception of) this movie being lifted entirely from TDKR.
Influenced By != Adaptation Of, I believe that was the common response.

I said heavily influenced which it still seems to be and the fact that he had to come out and say it's not must mean I'm not the only one who thought that.

It should be easy to understand how some could take these things as an indication that the movie might be a loose adaptation.
Be that all as it may, it still seems wrong to me to use an aging Bruce Wayne as the way to introduce the character in this new cinematic universe. And I think that is what concerns many people about this "influenced" story.

Agreed, but the dumbasses at the WB want to capitalize on the MARVEL hype. They could've easily established their DCCU over the next 7-10 years, instead of trying to cram years of history into one film.
