Inferno (2016, D: Ron Howard) S: Tom Hanks, Felicity Jones -- Dan Brown novel
Guess The Lost Symbol wasn't even worth making into a movie. Inferno was okay, just not sure it's worth seeing on the big screen.

Inferno, the latest novel to follow the adventures of Robert Langdon (played by Tom Hanks in The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons), is heading to the big screen. Sony Pictures has dated the film for December 18, 2015 with David Koepp adapting the screenplay, Deadline reports.
The book itself marks the fourth novel to follow Langdon. The third book, The Lost Symbol, is still eyed for a big screen version, but is expected at a later date. Published earlier this year, Inferno is officially described as follows:
In the heart of Italy, Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon is drawn into a harrowing world centered on one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces... Dante’s Inferno.
Against this backdrop, Langdon battles a chilling adversary and grapples with an ingenious riddle that pulls him into a landscape of classic art, secret passageways, and futuristic science. Drawing from Dante’s dark epic poem, Langdon races to find answers and decide whom to trust... before the world is irrevocably altered.
UPDATE: It has now been revealed that Hanks is set to reprise the Langdon role with Howard returning to direct.

Re: Inferno (2015) (D: Ron Howard; S: Hanks again)
I haven't read Inferno so I don't know of its decent or not but I ended up really liking the book and film version of Angels and Demons so I'll see a new movie in the theater when it's released. The Da Vinci Code was only OK as a book and movie.
The Lost Symbol was a fun book but nothing special. I'm guessing it was passed up in favor of Inferno to keep the film series with a European setting as opposed to running around DC.

I liked the Inferno book much, much more then Lost Symbol. Neither are as good as Angels & Demons or Da Vinci though. I'd be down to watch more.

I actually liked Angels and Demons more than The Da Vinci Code (mainly because the female lead was hotter
)
But seriously, I thought it was better paced and had more action.
I'd be game for more adventures with Bob Langdon

I'm 3/4 of the way through the book and it's not nearly as exciting as The Lost Symbol was, but it will be easier to make.
I've liked all of the books, but as for movie versions, I loved The DaVinci Code and hated Angels and Demons... but I'm game for another film.

Haven't been a fan of either of the movies thus far. The Lost Symbol book left a sour taste in my mouth so I'm not eager to dive into Inferno just yet (though likely will at some point for the heck of it).

The books rarely talk about the others so they could easily be interchanged.

Re: Inferno (2015) (D: Ron Howard; S: Hanks again)
EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have firmed an April start in Italy on Inferno, the third installment based on the Dan Brown novel series that began with The Da Vinci Code. The studio has closed its deals with Tom Hanks to reprise his role as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, and for Ron Howard to direct and Brian Grazer to produce with Howard. The script is by David Koepp.
In Inferno, Langdon awakens in an Italian hospital with amnesia. He teams up with Sienna Brooks, the doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories and prevent a madman from releasing a global plague connected to Dante’s Inferno. The last installment of the franchise, 2009’s Angels & Demons, grossed $486 million worldwide. They skipped over the next book in Brown’s series, The Lost Symbol. Beyond the youth-targeted superhero franchises spawned from Spider-Man and 21 Jump Street, the Langdon films have been a reliable adult franchise with global appeal. Sony launches its next one of those with the Antoine Fuqua-directed Denzel Washington-starrer The Equalizer. That film premieres in Toronto and a sequel to the Richard Wenk-scripted pic is already well along. Hanks, Howard and Grazer are repped by CAA.

Re: Inferno (D: Ron Howard; S: Hanks) - Dan Brown novel
Took long enough. That's six years in between Angels & Demons and this (whereas it was only 3 between DVC and A&D). Of course, that's assuming they keep that December 18 date which I'm doubting since it's set to open opposite Star Wars Episode VII.
And kind of off-topic, but the week after (12/23 and 12/25) is Kung Fu Panda 3 and Mission Impossible 5 respectively.

Wasn't Mark Romanek supposed to do The Lost Symbol though too?

I liked INFERNO, although the villain's motivations are a little wacky (and give the book a reason to be paranoid and preachy).
THE LOST SYMBOL was already made into a movie before that book was even released. It's called NATIONAL TREASURE 2.

Guess I'll need to finish the book before then. Haha. Might as well re-read from the beginning at this point since I'ver forgotten what happens in the beginning.

Re: Inferno (2016, D: Ron Howard) S: Hanks - Dan Brown novel
EXCLUSIVE: Felicity Jones (The Theory Of Everything) is in early talks to star opposite Tom Hanks in Ron Howard’s Inferno. Picture will be the third installment based on the Dan Brown series of novels best known for the blockbuster The Da Vinci Code book and film.
In Inferno, Harvard symbologist Henry Langdon (Hanks) awakens in an Italian hospital with amnesia. He teams up with Sienna Brooks, the role Jones is being considered for, a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories and prevent a madman from releasing a global plague connected to Dante’s Inferno.
Sony Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have enjoyed strong global returns from both Da Vinci Code and follow-up (and prequel) Angels And Demons. Brian Grazer produces alongside Howard. David Koepp wrote the script.

I liked the first two. But they are incredibly slow movies. When you start noticing shit like the ice in your bourbon slowly melting during the course of a movie, you know it has to be epic.
