The Lone Ranger franchise should take the advice from the final line of the movie: “Don’t do that again!"
I liked it, but please... NO SEQUEL!
I give it a barely passable "C" grade.

I'll be brief: It's overly-long and indulgent, and I didn't really like the chemistry between Hammer and Depp as the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Hammer plays LR rather weakly, probably not the right actor for the role. Depp does his odd take on Tonto, I was tepid toward his choices.
i give it 2 stars, or a grade of C.

I haven't seen it and probably won't in theaters, but I find it funny how all the advertisements only mention Depp and Tonto despite the movie being called The Lone Ranger. Why didn't they just cast Depp in the starring role if they cared more about making the movie about him/his character?

Currently at 26% on RT, but even some of the fresh reviews don't inspire much excitement in seeing it:
- ... not so bad a companion piece to the better-and-better Rango as initially feared.
- In the end, The Lone Ranger is one hot mess -- an entertaining one, to be sure, but still a mess.
- There's an "everything and the kitchen sink" overkill in the story. ... Verbinski manages to keep it all reined in, barely.
- Somewhere in there is an entertaining film, but The Lone Ranger stretches your patience mightily.

Those are the positive reviews?

Why did they make this movie? Who was clamoring for a Lone Ranger movie?
This is Pirates of the Caribbean transposed as a Western: overlong, mind-numbing, Johnny Depp doing stupid shit, tedious action, inane script.
It's one of those instantly forgettable movies where the making of the movie would be infinitely more interesting to watch than the movie itself.

Yeah I'm sensing a John Carter-style bomb here. Throw an undeserving amount of money at a long-forgotten property and expect it to sell. Add in Johnny Depp playing yet another quirky character, CGI it up to make it look like yet another summer blockbuster and then the kids will see it in droves.
I think the problem is that this is still a western, and the target audience are teenager who think Westerns are boring movies for old people. And although they may have heard of an old TV show called The Lone Ranger, I doubt it's a property that they'd be excited about.

Saw it today. I liked it alright. It's problem is that it's a bloated narrative, Johnny Depp, doesn't know it's own tone, and the humor doesn't fit it.
Somewhere in here there could've been a pretty good large scaled western. The last big action piece really fit well for the film. The theme really worked there. It was a lot of fun there.
This really had a good look to it when it dedicated itself to the western tone. Really loved the detail in that respect. I think Hammer would have been a fine LR but the script kept dumbing it down for what it wanted to be. A big summer film.
One thing I kept trying to guess was whether or not this was shot digital or not. It looked digital, looked good too if it was.
Most of the cast was looking pretty good in there, aside from the useless addition of Carter's role and well Depp. Love Barry Pepper. He really works well in that western timeframe.

Were it not for some great scenery and Johnny Depp, this would have been a complete disaster. It had its moments, but overall it was bloated and self indulgent.

Damn, this movie is BOMBING.
Good riddance I say.
Yet Depp's brand will continue to live on and this dim bulb actor will continue to get paid.
Seriously, has anyone seen this pretentious fop being interviewed?
Okay...I'm going to shimmy away now on my chemtrail of bitterness.

Sounds like Gore Verbinski can't get away from his bloated film directing he's gotten used to with the Pirates films. Plus the trailers just don't make this look very good. I will wait for cable.

I forgot to mention. This film had a good chunk of homage to Once Upon A Time in the West. I did really love those bits cuz those moments really aged well to the modern. A bit of Morricone nods in there. The Train Station bit, etc. Man. I love OUATITW.
