Re: Predator 2 vs. Predators

I think the idea of the Predator only working in the jungle is weak. It's a hunter. Hunters exist in various locales and adapt into the environments they've some reason to work in.

I might not like P2 but it has some cool ideas and neat moments. My favorite moment that stayed with me since I was a kid was watching the Predator get all medic on itself in that bathroom. That was a good scene. I don't mind Glover being the hero, not what you expected. Either way it horribly dates itself by trying to take place in the future. I'm not a fan of it but it has neat bits.

I like Predators more cuz well it's trying to remake Predator, cuz that dynamic rocked. It's biggest flaw is also that. There is no originality and it hits big cliches. I do like the cast a lot but could have done with less stereotyping of them. Sucks that Trejo went quickly. I like the core idea of a group of our predators getting take to the game world. Detest the Super Predators and Fishburne's character. 5 o'clock, bitch raping time. It's humor is good. I would love to see a sequel to this, it needs more of a budget to breath as well. Too much cgi for when a practical element could suffice. Again this film had cool ideas that were not executed properly. Be it in script or execution.

God, if Cameron was given this franchise? Fuck. That action would rock. Would get a great action script for it as well. Damnit. Now I want that. Get Shane Black to write and Cameron to direct.

It doesn't ONLY work in the jungle, they obviously did one in the city with part 2. But where else do you set it? If the OP is going to ding a sequel for being set in the jungle a second time, then I have to assume he would be against setting it in the city for a second time. Hence my asking, where he would like it to be set.

I'd pay good money to see Predator - Jersey Shore or Kardashians v. Predators

I agree with this. Recently rewatching it, I had better memories of Predator 2 than the movie deserved.

Also, Predators has one of the best "first images" of a movie I've ever seen.

Re: Predator 2 vs. Predators

Predators was an entire movie that kept saying "wasn't Predator awesome? Just constant references to a much better movie. A nod or too might have been cute, but it completely fails to stand on it's own. It feels like a fan film.

At least Predator 2 tried to do something different.

Do you mean the intro?

Talking about it. That was a great way to introduce to the film.

Things I like about Predator 2: Danny Glover
Things I dislike about Predator 2: Danny Glover

Too much Danny Glover = not good.

Too little Danny Glover = not good.

Adrien Brody = bad.

Re: Predator 2 vs. Predators

I thought Predators had potential and a few cool moments, but it was ultimately undone by it's constant need to reference the first movie.

That said, Predator 2 sucked. I'll never forget the first time I heard someone say they preferred it to the original. I thought my head was going to explode. Most of the time if someone disagrees with me I can usually see where they're coming from and even sympathize with their position, but Predator being better than Predator 2 was one one of those things I considered to be an absolute truth.

'Predators' was watchable.

Even 'Sharktopus' is better than 'Predator 2'...

Predator 2, which is in the running for most underrated sequel ever made. Predators was horrible.

Re: Predator 2 vs. Predators

I would take either one over the AVP movies but Predator 2 has Danny Glover. Danny Glover clearly proves that he is not in fact getting too old for that shit despite him going on and on about getting too old for the shit. Me? I say you're never too old for shit.*Jules hits submit reply as he shits.*

Re: Predator 2 vs. Predators

I'm just going to vote for "Predator 2" because I didn't think "Predators" looked interesting enough (The jungle again? Please.)

I don't like "Predator 2" more than "Predator" (who could), but it brought a lot of interesting ideas to the table.

The ship being here for hundreds of years, the previously mentioned med-kit scene, the different vision modes, showing that Predators will not kill females *at all* (even attacking them).

The biggest thing I took from this movie is that the Predators were of different skill levels. Clearly the one in the original was a far more skilled hunter, as it took Ah-nuld to injure him. The city Predator was taken out by Danny Glover (who was a cop, not a elite military soldier), so his skills were obviously less.

Predator 2 added *something* to the mythos, while it sounds like "Predators" was a modern EFX love letter to the original.

Can you elaborate on that? I always figured that the ship that was there was the first one from the opening credits as it's scanning the city. Basically it drops off the Predator to hunt and then lands somewhere else where it wasn't seen.

Re: Predator 2 vs. Predators

I guess I never paid much attention to the intro of the movie.

I had always assumed it had been there for hundreds of years since the Predator gives him a gun from 1715-ish. But they could have got that on a previous visit.

But keeping some single shot gun from the 1700's seems like an odd trophy to keep, I don't see the other ones keeping more modern machine guns as trophies.

i haven't seen predator 2 in a loooooong time, but wasn't it the case that the predator was going to kill the sht out of that one chick but only held back once it found out she was pregnant; not necessarily b/c she was a woman?

Correct. Predator killed old women on the commuter train, because they had guns. Men or women it doesn't matter. If you're armed then you're toast unless you're pregnant. And in case of the little kid (you want some candy) his gun was fake, but almost had his head blown off.

Re: Predator 2 vs. Predators

I'm gonna go with Predators. Yes, it had too many homages to the first one, but the setting was interesting, and Adrian Brody made for a good leading man with his screen presence.
Predator 2 has it's moments which are very strong, but it's hard to get past just how woefully out of place he seemed. Honestly I think if the original plan to cast Patrick Swayze hadn't fallen through, Predator 2 would have been a much stronger movie.

Never knew Swayze was up for the lead. I know he was doing Point Break during the same as Predator 2 was being filmed. I think Arnold recommended Danny Glover for the role, though.

But the Predator in the original movie still went after Dutch and his buddies even after they dropped their guns. But they were probably picked for trophies.

I still think there is a "no females" rule, and it probably is ignored if they are being attacked (or are targeted). But a majority of the people getting offed by a Predator were largely male.

Yeah, and then when it was Dutch all alone and unarmed, the Predator also dropped all of his weapons, too.

That's more of a casting problem than anything. It's a big action movie circa 1990 so it's mostly a male cast. They usually cast one woman to keep it from being a complete sausage fest.
