Re: Iconic characters who died poorly
I thought Catwoman shooting Bane was cool, but Nolan made the same mistake with Two-Face that Schumacher did, in keeping him on the sidelines.

Re: Iconic characters who died poorly
One character I was really sad to see die was Professor X in "The Last Stand". I never read the Phoenix saga, so did Jean have that ability in the comics? It just seemed like a horrible idea, and an even worse execution (no pun intended). Jean feeling a bit of brief sympathy for a crying girl on the Golden Gate bridge only further compounded the constant switching of her temperament.
Jazz from Transformers, that one was unexpected.
And I agree with Two-Face in The Dark Knight.

I was a bit upset initially with how Two Face was handled in The Dark Knight but the more I think of it the way the story was written it was handled well. The story was really more about Harvey Dent and him turning into Two Face was just a way for The Joker to demonstrate that even the most decent man can be driven to madness if pushed enough. So even though we didn't really see Harvey as Two Face that much and he died fairly quickly the parts where he was Two Face served their point well.

Dalton in Road House 2. Wasn't it basically just a line or two stating the best bouncer in the biz got knifed and died? Weak.

Kirk isn't really dead. After the film ends a Borg ship arrives and resurrects him. Later, he and Picard travel to the Borg homeworld to destroy them once and for all. They have to blow up some kind of central computer thingy that controls all the Borg. The only way to do it is for one of them to sacrifice themselves. Kirk stays behind and dies so Picard can get away.

A lot of the sequel deaths are the result of casting, actors not wanting to dignify crappy sequels, or writers unable to continue completed storylines.
Alien 3 - If Newt were there she's either be a different actress, or she'd have boobs because Carrie Henn was well into her teenage years at that point. If you want an undeserving death in this movie, it's Dr. Clemens.
Terminator 3 - Linda Hamilton's death between movies cements the idea that the Terminator movies end when Cameron bows out.
I'dd add some more:
Roy Scheider in Jaws: The Revenge
Talia Shire in Rocky Balboa, though this was a decent movie.

And Palpatine died from being thrown down a shaft. Lame.

Ernst Stavro Blofeld in For Your Eyes Only. Granted, they never mention him by name but it's clear who he is. He was Bond's main nemesis, and the lead villain in 3 prior films, yet all he gets a throwaway opening credit death, which was played for laughs.
I understand the behind-the-scenes reasons behind it, but it's still a b.s. way to kill off the character.

Another vote for Corporal Hicks and Newt in ALIEN 3. All that fighting and survival in ALIENS was for nothing.
ALSO:
I hated, hated, hated how they killed Laurie Strode in HALLOWEEN RESURRECTION. Couldn't they just have one heroine who got away from Michael victoriously?

Jesse James in The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford. Granted it was done well in the film and following history but...pretty weak of a death for a guy like him. Goddamn do I love that film.

That is definitely a great film. Makes me wonder how "Killing Them Softly" turned out to be so bad (IMO).
