I love going to the movies but couldn't justify the price. That's pretty much it. There's a lot of things I don't do because of the price, especially if it's not necessary for survival such as food and shelter.

That's a good way to look at it. Lately I've missed a lot of films in theaters and have just been watching them at home when the BD's are released.

Saw it last night. It was epic, and I love the new take on Khan. Yes, that death scene was a bit recycled, but man was it handled well. Will see it again.

Ok, but if you can justify 30 or 40 bucks a month, why weren't you going once or twice a month before?

You can have a trilogy as part of a long-running series. ST II-III-IV made a fantastic trilogy. But in this case, I don't get the "finish the trilogy" comment either. The first two movies don't represent parts of a trilogy, just independent stories in the ST universe.

The same reason I will pay $100 for 5 pairs of jeans but not one

I think redrum meant a "Directed by JJ Abrams" trilogy.

The film earned $7.9 million on Monday, which is a pretty good number considering the softer than expected opening. I think the older crowds will give the film some good numbers through the week. I think $200 mil is a likely finish in the US and could be more if it can maintain some legs, although the next few weeks are going to be very crowded. Paramount probably needs a heftier foreign total to be happy.

Paramount's foreign strategy seems to be making up for lost ticket sales in North America. That's one of the reasons they insisted on a 3D conversion (3D is huge overseas) and it's paying off for them. When all is said and done INTO DARKNESS may make a little less than the 2009 version domestically, but quite a bit more in the foreign markets, meaning its worldwide total will also be bigger than the 2009 movie.

Prepare to see some Chinese people in the next Star Trek.

Saw this on Sunday night and thought it was pretty great. The reversal of the Kirk/Spock death scene (mirroring Wrath of Khan) was pretty cool, and Spock yelling "Khan!" at the end of that scene was the icing on the cake.

I wrote a review for the film as well.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness (Abrams, 2013) — The Reviews Thread (Spoilers, Duh)

Wow, I saw this last night in "Real 3D" or whatever its' called and I LOVED IT. The Dark atmosphere, the humor, the story, the acting, it all hit for me.

Ben Cumberbatch is a fuckin' bad ass. His looks, that cool creepy deep smokey voice, his acting... I've liked him since I first noticed him in "Atonement".

I loved the new look of the Klingons

Visually....Wow....after wasting money on 3D for Iron Man 3 seeing 3D DONE RIGHT on ST2 was a huge hit for me and the person I went with. I felt they used 3D the way it was meant to be used. Atmosphere with a few in your face #d gimmicks. The ships looked amazing...coming out of water, coming out of clouds, in Warp, going into Warp. All of that took my breath and I really want to see this again in IMAX 3D.

I was sorry to see certain characters go not only because of character, but also because I like the actor....but hey, it is what it is. I dug the "ending" for the lead bad guy because it was a nice alternative to the typical Hollywood ending for bad guys.

I did think Spock smiled a bit too much but I can credit that to everyone appealing to his Human side so I can let it go.

But Cumberbatch proved you didn't need a roided out actor to pull this off. I felt this man's anger, and was genuinely freaked out by the thought of having to deal with a man like him.

$6.7 mil on Tuesday. That's slightly above the first film's $6.5 mil.

It should reach around $110 mil after Thursday and then we'll see if it can have a decent hold.

First time I ever saw Ricardo Montalban described as "roided".

A FUN movie to watch. Gets a solid 'B' from me.

Good to see Nimoy back as SPOCK PRIME.
This cameo and the Tribble appearance really made it a BETTER movie experience for me.
I bet Shatner is jealous that Nimoy has been in more ST movies then he has.

saw it last night and really enjoyed it. i'd rank it right beside the previous entry. fun and action packed exactly like a summer blockbuster should be. dialog was solid (and funny) along with the acting. i've decided michael giacchino is the rightful heir to john williams' throne. glad to see less lense flare this time around. a solid 4/5 from me.

this is why hollywood keeps remaking old movies cause of reactions like yours.

Wrath of Khan puts this garbage to shame. JJ Abrams makes movies for the ADHD crowd.

I would think it has more to do with ticket sales. We can have all the reactions we want after the fact. Tickets were already sold, money was already made.

Does MoviePass actually pick you up and take you to the theater and bring you back home--all automatically whether you want to or not? For the most part? Yes. For films you might've had a slight interest in, but would've waited for video, MoviePass makes it affordable to see them theatrically. I don't have as much free time as GatorDeb does as I've missed out on numerous movies I wanted to see (i.e. The Sapphires), but my theatrical outings have increased drastically since the launch of MoviePass in 2011. Before MoviePass, my wife and I would see three or four movies a month. Some of them were free advanced screenings, some others that are not. Now we can usually do two or three a week depending on what's out.
