You're right. They didn't stand around much if at all before.

Re: [REC] 4: Apocalypse

I've only seen the first one myself, can't say seeing any sequels was very appealing, seemed liked a cash grab as the original ended well. The second one at least is as good as the first?

Fuck yeah. It's the "Aliens" of the bunch, imo.

Re: [REC] 4: Apocalypse

Loved the remake, really liked the original (it may have been the order I saw them in).

I don't remember second one. [Edited to add: after seeing Why So Blue's comment, I do remember it involved a SWAT team ... I don't know about calling it the Aliens of the bunch though.) The sequel to the remake (which is not a remake of the sequel) was OK at best.

I actually really enjoyed the third one. It was good campy fun, so it did not retain any of the spirit of its predecessors. I thought donning the suits of armor was a pretty creative idea which we had not seen before. Goofy, but it makes sense!

I am in for the fourth (or is it the sixth?) and looking forward to the "more cinematic" style.

Re: [REC] 4: Apocalypse

Looks like they're being a tad more consistent this time out, which makes me happy. I noticed Magent is releasing here, but I already placed my Amazon UK order for the BD. That releases March 2.

Re: [REC] 4: Apocalypse

Just caught this last night on Amazon instant...some nice little throwbacks to the other movies including part 3 that caught me off guard. Overall it seems they got themselves in a box with part 2 and didn't really know where to go after that. Not terrible but in no way as good as part 1 or 2. It was weird to me that even though the first movie came out in 2007 the gal who plays Angela; Manuela Velasco looks to have aged quite a bit. Maybe that was by design but they do give you a timeframe in the movie on how long part 1-3 occurred.
Spoiler:
the whole thing basically takes place within 6 hours.

Re: [REC] 4: Apocalypse

Got this queued up for my big holiday break (which starts at 2:30pm today :-) - looking forward to it but not expecting much - weirdest franchise ever for me - rec 1 & 2, hands down, no question about it - my two all time favorite horror movies......rec 3, just terrible - I don't think Manuela looks that old but haven't seen 4 yet (and the trailer doesn't show her TOO much) so it will be interesting to take note of.

Re: [REC] 4: Apocalypse

And actually, I just logged onto amazon and saw this for rec 4 in my watchlist:

"Our agreements with the content provider don’t allow purchases of [REC] 4: Apocalypse at this time."

WTF???

Re: [REC] 4: Apocalypse

Ah, so rental only, eh?

I was thinking of waiting until the UK BD is out, but I might splurge and watch this sooner than that.

edit: Oh. I can't even see a rental button for it. Weird. I wonder if it got put up by accident and is now pulled.

Re: [REC] 4: Apocalypse

^ Same. I have the UK editions of the first 3, so it just seems odd not to get the 4th that way.
That said, that's not out until March, right?
I'd love to rent it now.

Me too. REC 1 is the reason I went Region Free. I then imported REC 2 from Japan, and REC 3 from the UK.

I know Magnolia is releasing it here next month in limited release and VOD, though.

For me, as long as it has the option to remove the subtitles, I'm good. Yeah, the UK version of 4 is out in the UK in March.

Re: [REC] 4: Apocalypse

Was actually able to watch this yesterday and it was definitely better than part 3 by leaps and bounds. There is no more found footage angle - it simply plays as a feature. Manuela Velasco is still pretty but agree that she looks way older. Hey she had just turned 32 when she did the first film and is now 38.

I'd rank them like this:

REC
REC 2
REC 4
REC 3

Re: [REC] 4: Apocalypse

First, I keep seeing people say she looks older....I think she looks comprable to the first film?? I'm just not seeing it, I mean yeah, a little older and who cares....shes still as hot as ever.

Rec 4 was another dud but at least it's a tolerable dud (until the end shot - wtf was up with that??) they took such a great premise from 1 & 2 and just.....well, put it this way, the directors are doing one of two things, either they are just having fun or simply going to milk the thing dry.

Sad.

Re: [REC] 4: Apocalypse

Agreed. The original premise is fascinating, but with parts 3 & 4, seem squandered - like they ran out of steam or ran out of ideas and just said fuck it.

I also agree with you about the final shot
Spoiler:
Yet, they're saying that the REC universe is done for. Well, it really can't be done for with a somewhat open ending like that.
