Same here, I still like going to midnight showings and don't mind paying a premium watching movies on a IMAX screen, no matter how good my home theater is, it can never duplicate the theatrical experience.

I stopped going to theaters half-a-lifetime ago, and I *still* couldn't care less about streaming. Streaming is barely good enough for music, it's worthless for video. Especially for the new release window, where a/v quality will matter most. We're a long way from having the infrastructure for that, in the pipeline or in the home, in most places.

I'm not sure people around here have a concept of money. Seriously, you guys would pay $20 to watch a less than blu-ray quality movie at home one time!? We don't even pay $20 to see a movie on a huge screen with excellent surround sound.

I don't even want to pay the $6.99 price when a movie hits streaming in a normal release time frame. Why would I pay $20 a couple months earlier.

The max I pay here is I think $6.50. And that's how much a 3D film comes out to on College day. For a regular screening on that night it's $3.50. If I don't go those days it is the $6.50

I'm going with $0, even though I watch everything but sports via streaming these days. If it's enough of an "event" film for me to want to see it on opening day, I'll go to the theater for the experience.

I'd rather go to the theater and get the experience for blockbusters. Once in a while, I'll have a shitty time at the theater, but it's not often, honestly.

Nada

Not into blockbusters but once in a while there is one that catches my attention. I'll just wait for Blu-Ray or DVD.

Those are typical adult ticket prices here in Puerto Rico. Adult tickets for 3D showings are usually $7 - $8.

I used to say the same thing until I moved out here. I pay $5 or $6.50 matinee all the time (except for IMAX, ETX or 3D) at a very nice AMC.

I pay for Moviepass so I wouldn't use that service anyway but if I didn't I would pay up to $15 per movie. There would be some I'd prefer to see in the theaters but then there are a bunch I'd prefer to watch in the comfort of my own home.

I said up to $20 - same as the price of two tickets for me going to the theater. That number goes down if the PQ is not 1080p and the sound isn't at least comparable to something like DD+ 5.1.

Re: Theatrical Blockbusters: How much would you pay to stream them at home?

I tend to go to theaters for event movies (TDKR, AVENGERS, EXPENDABLES 2, SKYFALL, DJANGO, LINCOLN, etc.) and specialty movies (the occasional anime release like FROM UP ON POPPY HILL) and pay...I dunno, it seems like a lot. $13 and up. Something like $16 or $17 for IMAX and 3-D and such. I don't mind because I tend to want to see these movies in theaters--on a big screen and, occasionally, as with DJANGO, with an appreciative and responsive audience.

But there are plenty of movies I miss because I'm just not fast enough to see certain things in theaters that come and go quickly, like THE LAST STAND and BULLET TO THE HEAD, to name two recent films that I wanted to see but are not blockbuster-y enough to stick around long enough for me to see them and are not necessarily better suited to the big screen. I wouldn't mind paying to see those at home at the time of their theatrical release. But I would balk at paying more than $10 since I'm not getting the theatrical experience and my home theater setup is only adequate at best.

The theater near our house recently REDUCED their prices. The tickets are $7.50 for adults. It blew my mind to see that.

The other theater we go to is still at $10.

I'm guessing there was a coinciding increase in concession prices.

I much prefer watching movies in the theatre, so $0 for me.

The concept of money is relative to what people are paying at the theater. If your local cinema is charging $9 or more per ticket like many are, then thats's close to twenty for two people. Not much of a gap.

If your local theater is charging $5 then it is a bigger gap from $10 to $20.
