Stephenie Meyer's The Host - Adapted by Andrew Niccol, starring Saoirse Ronan
Intrigued based on Niccol's (wrote Truman Show, Gattaca, Lord of War) participation and Ronan can act. Niccol is also favored to be director on the project.
Always saw this book at the store and wondered wtf it was (was always on the bestsellers case, and kind of an eye catching cover in a really generic way) before I knew what any of this Twilight crap was. Anyone whose read it care to chime in? More mass market Mormonism? Geared toward the teen girls?

Andrew Niccol is probably one of the most underrated directors. He made 2 of my all-time favorite films in Gattaca and Lord of War. I'll support anything he puts out.

My wife was a HUGE fan of the Twilight series, but just couldn't get into this book. Aside from that, I've got nothing.

The synopsis on Amazon.com seems spoilerific, so here's a snippet:
In this tantalizing SF thriller, planet-hopping parasites are inserting their silvery centipede selves into human brains, curing cancer, eliminating war and turning Earth into paradise. But some people want Earth back, warts and all, especially Melanie Stryder, who refuses to surrender, even after being captured in Chicago and becoming a host for a soul called Wanderer. Melanie uses her surviving brain cells to persuade Wanderer to help search for her loved ones in the Arizona desert.
Yes, there's a love triangle involved. Sounds like a pretty generic sci-fi plotline with more emphasis on the love storyline.

I'm against anything that makes Stephenie Meyer more money. And the last movie I saw called The Host was so bad I don't even want to think of one that might be worse.

Uh...no. It's like Invasion of the Body Snatcher told from the point of view of the alien, and of the few human survivors who have not been taken over. It has a lot of internal dialogue between the alien and the original owner of the body, who yes, is in love with someone. The love stuff is not the central story, but it is there and is a story element.
I would think this would be a difficult movie to make because so much of the book is internal between the alien and the body's original owner.

Eh, not really anything new, just an extension of threads from The Invasion or The Puppet Masters which broach the idea of parasitic-coercion leading to peace.

The wife loved the Host. Thankfully she will drag her girlfriends with her to this movie.

Niccol made Gattaca and Lord of War; two underrated and great films.
He also made S1mone and In Time; two gigantic pieces of shit.
I'm assuming we'll get the latter Niccol involved with this considering the source material is written by a fat Mormon twat with no grasp of the English language who probably has never seen a penis let alone been in love with a man based off her past hits.

I actually enjoyed S1mone. It was a fun little satire. Sure it wasn't as ambitious as Gattaca or as good as Lord of War but it was an enjoyable flick. In Time is just decent. It really needed a few rewrites before shooting began. I didn't hate it but it is by far the worst film of those four.

I was no big fan of the TWILIGHT novels, but managed to get through them all. THE HOST, on the other hand was just god-awful. I read about half of it and it's been sitting on the shelf ever since.
