Here's a question - a minor thing really, but I'm curious...
Will this movie have the Toho logo at the beginning?
Toho has had some involvement in this movie (not a lot, but it sure would be cool to see that logo on the big screen again).
These days it's not uncommon to have the distribution company's logo, then the multiple production companies' logos after that. Will we see the same thing here with the WB/Legendary/Toho logos?

There is no Toho logo at the beginning of the movie, at least not at the screening I attended,

I JUST got Godzilla: Art of Destruction from Amazon this afternoon (also Godzilla Awakenings). The first thing I glanced at was the absolutely gorgeous foldout with all the design ideas for the big G. Awesome.

WB is determined for this to reach $200 mil in the US. It's now earned $199,090,849 through Monday. Worldwide stands at $491 million and it finally opens in Japan this weekend, so $500+ mil is guaranteed.

Well I'd love to give them my $20 but I can't find it anywhere near me.

It's starting to trickle into second-run theaters, so if you've got one nearby it'll show up soon enough.
I don't blame WB for keeping it in theaters until it hits $200m. You don't want the dubious distinction of being the only film in history to open over $90m and NOT hit $200m.

It'll be past $200m after this upcoming weekend. It's pulling about $70k a day mid-week.

I know PR isn't the best comparison, since word is the marketing in Japan was terrible, but I'd be amazed to see Godzilla pull in more than, say, $20m over there. I'd love to see it do gangbusters business, but the Japanese market for kaiju films seems to have eroded away to nearly nothing. I hope to be proven wrong this weekend.

Finally saw it and holy shit, it far exceeded my expectations. I thought "Monsters" was a very effective low budget indie thriller so I knew this had potential. But man, this blew me away. It's one of the better sci-fi films I've seen. Great cast, acting, script, directing and some of the best effects and CGI I've ever seen. Just an overall very dark and intense movie. It was so disturbing at times, I don't think I'd let anyone under 13 watch it. One of the Summer's best. Might even make my top 10 for the year. Seriously. Right now, that list includes "The Grand Budapest Hotel", "Under the Skin", "Captain America: The Winter Soldier", "Dom Hemingway", "Only Lovers Left Alive", "Locke", "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and "Edge of Tomorrow".

Jesus. No offense, man... But the script and acting ain't great. I loved it for bringing G back more to his original light and whatnot but its got some massive flaws.

One week at the top of the Japanese box office.

TOKYO – “Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno,” the first of a two-part sequel to a 2012 hit about a pacifist swordsman in early-modern-era Japan, enjoyed the biggest opening weekend of any live-action Japanese film this year.
Produced by Warner Entertainment Japan, the film earned $8.1 million in its first three days, including Friday, on 438 screens and 640,000 admissions. It also topped the Aug. 2-3 weekend, while out-pacing the first “Rurouni” movie by 48%.
“Kyoto Inferno” benefited from its bow on Movie Service Day, on the first of every month, which draws fans with discounted tickets. The one day total was $2.25 million on 211,740 admissions.
The second part of the sequel, “Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends,” will open on Sept. 13.
Meanwhile, the new release toppled “Godzilla” from the top place. The Toho-distributed “Godzilla” slipped by a modest 32% in its second week of release on 427 screens, while driving its cumulative score to $15.3 million.

Look, it's not going to win any Oscars. Or even get nominated. But compared to most Summer action movies, it's a cut above the rest. Including the script and acting (IMO). And a terrific cast.

It always surprises me when I see totals from other countries, especially ones with large populations, how unimpressive the BO is for the weekend. The top film made $8.1M for the weekend and is the top live action film of the year. Compared to the US where movie flops can make $8M their first week. In the US, Turtles tripled that in one day. Now I understand that the US has a larger population of 300M compared to Japan's 127M so a little over a 1/3 of the US but you'd think if the US can get have movies make 90M+ a weekend, they'd be able to get around $30M a weekend.
