It's probably a distribution rights issue. This film is going to be owned by WB, and they're going to want to license it out to overseas markets, even if they're licensing to their own subsidiaries.

Most Kickstarters are creator-owned, so they don't have an issue with overseas shipment, since they likely aren't going to be entering into distribution deals with foreign companies.

Almost to $200,000 now. Go Internet! Fuck the studios and their outdated way to make movies. But props to the WB for letting them try it, as they could have been dicks about it.

I think they were always interested in the idea of it... but financially they couldn't justify it.

Because they couldn't think outside of their normal boxes. They could have swung a couple of million, done minimal or viral marketing and it would have been just fine.

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised if we see this type of solution for the proposed Arrested Development movie.

Working towards $350K in 2 hours.

re: Veronica Mars Kickstarter

Wow, already at $728k. At this rate, it's going to hit the goal before the weekend.

We just got done watching the series after renting them from the local library. I was sad to see it end like that and will happily go see the movie when it's released.

I heard of the show but never saw it. Heard many a great thing about it. I'll have to check it out to see what made Bell so damn popular.

re: Veronica Mars Kickstarter

$10,000 gets you "a part" in the movie. How big a part, I wonder. Walk-on? One line? "Where to, Miss Mars?" One word? "Taxi?"

re: Veronica Mars Kickstarter

It says you're just waiter. There is a description on the page.

You will get a speaking role in the movie. Here’s the scene — Veronica is eating with the man in her life. Things have gotten tense between them. You are the waiter/waitress. You approach the table, and you say, “Your check, sir.” We guarantee you will be on camera as you say the line. Unless you go all hammy and ruin the scene and we have to cut you out, but that would be a sad day for all of us. Just say the line. Don’t over-think it. You’re a waiter. Your motivation is to turn over the table.

All this excitement got me thinking about the proposed season 4 FBI show... so I watched the clip for the first time in years... and I totally forgot Walton Goggins was in it!

So....hopefully they have commitments from the actors to be in it. Wonder what they'll do if they reach their goal but Bell doesn't want to be in it.

Firefly would need much more than $2m to continue on. Veronica Mars can be done for a fairly low budget.

Shawn Ryan is watching this one closely for how to proceed with a Terrier's wrap-up film. Unfortunately, Terriers never was nearly as popular as Veronica Mars, so it will struggle with a Kickstarter, though I'll gladly donate to it.
