Glad I wasn't the only one who felt that way....

Except Rambo 4 is the arguably the best in the series. Without question better than 2 and 3.

I saw this last week with the free movie money and I was not feeling it at all. I went in with zero expectations and got exactly what I was anticipating.

The shaky cam was very excessive to me. John McClane came off as a parody more than anything. I never want to hear him talk about his vacations again. I'm going to try and pretend this movie isn't attached to the series.

Even for a mindless action movie it wasn't very good. Extremely thin on plot and just pretty cornball all around.

Re: A Good Day to Die Hard (2013, D: Moore) - The Reviews Thread

I saw this yesterday with the free movie cash from the Die Hard BD box set.

I really really wanted to like this movie, but in the end it was a disappointment.

Just didn't feel like a Die Hard movie. What made Die Hard really special was it's sarcastic tone. McClane was a snarky wise-cracking hero who didn't take shit from the bad guys. That was part of the fun of the 1st film. This version of McClane just didn't have that. It was an okay action with some crazy stunts, shootouts and special effects, but in the end, it was an empty experience. There was really nothing memorable about it or the characters.

Skip Woods obviously doesn't know the McClane character. Frankly, I'm surprised after Willis read the script that he would approve it.

And why the fuck did McClane keep saying he was on vacation? He was there to help Jack and see what trouble he got himself into.

I think Live Free or Die Hard even though it gets shit on in this forum for the PG-13 nonsense was more true to the franchise. At least Maggie Q and Olyphant were more interesting villains.

Overall, I gave it 2 1/2 stars. Grade-wise I would give it a C-

Here's an idea....FOX should hire Steven E. de Souza who co-wrote the 1st movie to write the next/last film. He knows the fucking character.

BTW, I am so fired up to see Olympus has Fallen. It looks like it will blow this movie away.

Not great, easily the weakest of the five. What happened to the John McClane of the first three (maybe the 4th as well)? This isn't him.
The plot is weak, although the action pieces are pretty good.
The villains are unmemorable, even the cliche hot violent chick. I suppose that when you start with Hans Mothereffing Gruber, you've got nowhere else to go but down.

If there's going to be a #6, bring back Holly McClane. And Dick Thornburg too, for laughs.

Re: A Good Day to Die Hard (2013, D: Moore) - The Reviews Thread

I recently saw this and I was extremely disappointed. I am a big Die Hard fan and this just wasn't Die Hard. Making John's son the centerpiece of the film and him just tagging along was very weird. I want to see John in charge and whooping ass. It very much appeared to me that Bruce Willis had a "meh whatever" attitude with this film. I found myself bored through most of the film. The car chase sequence was spectacular, but that didn't save this film.

I would still rank First Blood the best, but Rambo 4 is a close second. R4 is one of the most kick ass films I have ever seen. When I saw the trailers before release I was preparing for the worst. Stallone was around the 60 year old mark and I didn't think he could pull it off. However, I was extremely wrong. I hope he does another one.

My favorite Rambo quote is in this film -- "F**k the world."

And in the same scene: "Fuck off...okay?"

Re: A Good Day to Die Hard (2013, D: Moore) - The Reviews Thread

Huh, I went into this reading this thread and.... Ended up liking it quite a bit. Loved all the practical stunts. Wasn't as campy as I was expecting. Thought the moment at the trunk with John and Jack was sincere.

Definitely missing some of the Die Hard charm (probably because if the setting), but I had fun watching it. Sorry everyone!

Re: A Good Day to Die Hard (2013, D: Moore) - The Reviews Thread

Just finished watching it for the first time; the action was cool, but the writing was off. Too many villains flip-flopping on each other, and not enough story about why Jack hated John so much. It was cool to see Mary Elisabeth Winstead back as Lucy, but a cameo from Justin Long would've been nice.

As the series currently stands, here's my ranks from best to worst:

Die Hard
Live Free or Die Hard
Die Hard With a Vengeance
A Good Day to Die Hard
Die Harder

Re: A Good Day to Die Hard (2013, D: Moore) - The Reviews Thread

I must admit that I enjoyed this movie quite a bit when I rented it. However, in my eyes it's not a Die Hard movie at all. The real John McClane would have died at least 20 times in the first 15 minutes alone, unlike the immortal Willis was playing in this movie. It was basically an action packed, R-rated sequel to Unbreakable.

Guess I didn't comment when I rented it... the sloppiest big-budget action movie I've ever seen. Characters would show up out of no where... entire sequences would make no sense. Say what you will about Michael Bay... despite his excess and juvenile humor.... at least he knows how to stage a scene and make a coherent film.

Finally saw this tonight and it's extraordinary how mediocre it was. You wonder why someone, somewhere along the line didn't see what a half-assed debacle this movie was turning into. I'm not usually that guy that shouts stuff at the screen but the incredibly cheesy final action bit with the helicopter I must've shouted "Oh, COME ON!" at least three times. Even Die Hard 4, which I rather liked despite its flaws, looks like Citizen Kane compared to this dog.

Re: A Good Day to Die Hard (2013, D: Moore) - The Reviews Thread

My list is as follows:

Die Hard
Die Hard 2
Haven't you fucking died already?
Hurry up and Fucking Die Hard so I can go home.... and finally
This is a Die Hard movie?

It was what I call porn action. A bunch of set pieces with totally unrealistic action sequences strung together so everyone can collect a paycheck. I agree with whoever mentioned it earlier in the thread, Olympus Has Fallen is more DH than DH5 was.
