Blue in the Face (1995)

I watched the movie "Blue in the Face" tonight. I thought it was a great movie, I searched it here and it didn't come up.

Great cast. Funny characters. Funny conversations.

I recommend you check it out if you haven't already.

Been meaning to see this one, but just haven't got around to it yet.

I felt the previous movie, Smoke, was a damn near perfect film. So I'm obviously lowering expectations for this one a bit.

Re: Blue in the Face (1995)

This thread made me check out the credit's Wayne Wang has as a director. Man talk about a diverse career. From small Chinese art house films to big budget Hollywood dreck, to independent American art house flicks to big budget Chinese studio flicks. He's done it all. I'll have to check some of his stuff out.

....But I won't be watching Maid in Manhattan.

Re: Blue in the Face (1995)

IMDB says that they shot this movie in 5 days using all the actors and sets that were available at the end of filming Smoke. Also it says that this movie was made because all the improvs that the actors were doing to warm up with were really good.

I didn't even realize it was Gustavo Fring until the credits said it was him. Plus he talks about chickens.

'Smoke' is a nice little indie film.

This film is 'meh'.

Re: Blue in the Face (1995)

I saw Blue in the Face years ago, and remember it being a fun movie, an odd little side project from Smoke. This whole movie is kinda like a lengthy DVD extra, just one that got released theatrically long before DVD was actually here.

Funnily enough, I came across a the Smoke screenplay at a used bookstore the other day, and was surprised to see it intended dramarize Auggie's whole "visit with grandma" story, with his voice over narrating. According to the intro by Auster, they shot and cut the whole thing, then decided it was better just staying on the shot of Keithel telling the story.

Re: Blue in the Face (1995)

It's hit and miss. I like movies like this where you can skip the bad stuff and just watch the good scenes without feeling like you're missing anything. I've seen Blue in the Face four or five times and I usually just skip the Roseanne and Madonna stuff.

Three things that I absolutely love about this movie though:

Michael J Fox's performance with his psycho questions.

Mel Gorham (if you've seen it, you know.)
