The whole "Presents" thing confuses people, I remember how many people thought:

meant Quentin Tarantino directed a Jet Li movie.

I think "From the studio that brought you..." can be the worst offender. For things like Pixar, sure, it works. But if they were to do that for say Warner Brothers, it would just be so vague as to the quality of the movie that's being advertised. "From the studio that brought you The Dark Knight...and Catwoman!"

I disagree, and I greatly anticipate "From the studio that brought you From Justin to Kelly" on the ads for The Wolverine.

Yeah, you're also the studio that brought us MEET DAVE and ERAGON, so shut up.

I didn't even notice "studio" because I was in such a rush to check the boxes for "producers" and "executive producers."

The funny thing about Executive Producers is they matter in television since most are writers/producers/showrunners for a series. If I hear a TV show is from the EP of The Shield, I'm intrigued since I will know Shawn Ryan has some creative involvement with it.
But noone gives a shit about EP's in movies. I think it's just a glorified Vanity title. Is anyone actually attracted to a movie if it's from Executive Producer Tom Hanks, Ron Howard or Steven Spielberg?

Similarly, From the Earth to the Moon is advertised as a combination HBO, Tom Hanks, and Imagine Entertainment (Ron Howard's company) to associate it with Apollo 13.

I recall movies like Poltergeist, Gremlins, and Batteries not Included prominently displaying Stephen Spielberg's name, to a prominent enough extent that at least some people thought he directed those movies.

"Starring Oscar-winner Cuba Gooding Jr. [or insert other dubious name]" is often a questionable one, especially once the movie has left theaters, since by that time it's possible the actor COULD have won the award for that role.

Actually check that. It wasn't Hero it was the other one he "presented." Came out last year I think.

To be honest, I hate them all to an extent.
But "by 1 of the writers of..." just sounds bad. It's unfair, because maybe that one writer did most of the script of the previous film, or maybe he was an integral part of a team effort. Actually, any time they say something like "brought to you by 1 of the writers/producters/executive producers etc" sounds weird.
"From the studio that brought you," doesn't sound that bad at first. Growing up on rented VHS tapes I remember now how all the studios would show the highlights of their best films to develop a club house mentality. But no matter what film goers aren't loyal to studio brands like that.
Stupid things like "from the marketing visionary who brought you..." insult me and would instill in me a strong aversion to whatever they're trying to sell me. Had I seen QUENTIN TARANTINO ROLLING THUNDER PICTURES PRESENTS The Killer, I don't think I'd have rented it back in 2000.

Perhaps it is for some live-action films as well, if it's something like Fox Searchlight or Focus Features. At least you know it's going to be something of a prestige film or perhaps a foreign film that got enough buzz to be picked up. Then again, it may be Oscar bait, which some people can't stand.
However, those kinds of movies don't tend to be marketed that way. If you see "from the studio that brought you" (not just the logo), it usually means they don't have any better way to sell the film. Does Pixar even do that now?

For a while Disney was promoting its animated features by enumerating them: "Walt Disney Pictures presents its thirty-first animated feature"

My father in law saw that and said it was terrible. He said QT came out and said "this isn't my movie" before it started. I'm sure he did that to try and deflect some of the credit he thought the movie would get but it just made him look like a genius.
Actually check that. It wasn't Hero it was the other one he "presented." Came out last year I think.

Pixar did include "from the creators of Finding Nemo, Up, Wall-E" in one of its trailers for Brave:

I think Pixar normally tends to do that on films with new premises, and not sequels or such where they can depend on people remembering the original film. For example, the Monsters University Trailer doesn't have that sort of credit, while the trailer for Up does.
