Re: The Raid 2 (2014)

I was happy to see the first one in a theater. It was the right kind of kick to the nuts that the action genre needed.

also a surprise to see a white guy do a martial arts flick like that. I'd like to see what an American film from him would be but I fear what our system would limit him. Also...they don't have unions over there. So he worked their asses off, as did he. There is a good Q&A with him on the BD about making films in Indonesia and out of it. It was a good feature. I don't think our industry can support his kind of stuff. It COULD happen but I dunno.

Yes, but Sony Pictures Classic gave it a wide release in 881 theaters (the definition of a wide release is a count above 500) four weeks later. It performed poorly during its wide release and was out of theaters within two weeks.

I saw the first one in theaters too. I'm not that impressed with the last trailer, but short of really bad reviews i'm looking forward to this.

they really didn't advertise it much if at all, although i saw it at a multiplex and it was plenty packed, & nobody walked out due to subtitles

Short and some new stuff.

Still excited in seeing how Evans grew as a director.

Re: The Raid 2 (2014)

RT @firstshowing Gareth Evans just pulled off something akin to The Dark Knight of action movies. Unfuckingbelievable. The Raid 2 is insane

RT @russfischer: To deal with THE RAID 2, the MPAA is gonna need something heavier than NC-17. And probably some adult diapers.

RT @DrewAtHitFix Gareth Evans is the best action filmmaker working right now. Full stop. Bow

IE the Raid 2 is as awesome as it looks

"Hey you guys gets to see The Raid 2 before the MPAA has a heart attack" Gareth Evans before the screening

You can't even see the charts... that's how far off the charts the movie is.

Re: The Raid 2 (2014)

Devin Faraci's review:

http://badassdigest.com/2014/01/22/s...ew-the-raid-2/

The sequel to the modern action classic is bigger and better in every single way.
The Raid 2 (it’s subtitled Berendal in Indonesia, no one is sure what it’ll be subtitled in the US according to Evans) is an absolute masterwork. The action is unmatched, the camerawork and frame composition is always stunning and the crime tale underpinning it all is compelling. Gareth Evans managed to top The Raid, but only by making a movie that’s completely different, but just as utterly badass.
The Raid was one of my favorites of 2012. I can't wait to see this one.

"To the likely chagrin of some viewers, this time you actually have to pay a modicum of attention to the plot"

Hey at least the Weinsteins have nothing to do with this, or they'd say 'shorten the first hour, get to the violence'

Re: The Raid 2 (2014)

This can't come out soon enough. Calling Evans the greatest living action director is a bold statement for Devin Faraci, but thinking about it, which other action filmmakers are still kicking ass?

Edgar Wright. I'd call him an action director. So excited for Ant-Man.

Edgar Wright, action director? That's a bit of stretch.

I guess you could go with Justin Lin the guy who has done the last couple of Fast and Furious movies as one that comes to mind immediately.

Re: The Raid 2 (2014)

All this adds up to a movie that easily trounces the already astronomically high expectations set out by its predecessor. The Raid 2 is quite frankly, the most epic martial arts action film ever made. And no, it's not just damned hyperbole.

So much hype

Just wondering how much the theatrical cut will be edited. The version shown at Sundance won't be shown in any theater settings most likely. Which is sad.

Is the US version being cut Weinstein-style?
