The Help...just blown and got totally wrapped in the emotion and the story and especially the characters. just a wonderfully done film.

Re: Movies you're surprised you liked?

Great idea for a thread!

The first that comes to mind is About a Boy. My sister dragged me to it because she wanted to see a Hugh Grant movie and I obliged, expecting a generic "chick flick" (not that I'd ever seen a generic "chick flick" so what did my younger, early-20s misogynistic self know?). Instead, it was really, really good. There was a bunch of dark humor and I was the only one laughing in the theater (and I have an Alpha Laugh) and I don't think my sister liked it very much. Turned me on to Nick Hornby and it's one of my favorite movies.

I would have enjoyed that movie a lot more if someone had blown me right before I watched it too.

Recently, Warrior. Thought it was going to be a testosterone filled shit fest that only Neanderthal MMA watchers would enjoy. Was totally wrapped up in the story and was surprised how unpredictable it was despite the cliche premise. Wonderful soundtrack as well.

I like John Carter too. I saw the DVD cover of Tucker and Dale vs Evil and thought it would be rubbish. But a friend said it was really funny. I took his advice and watched it. It's one of the best horror comedies I've seen. Fantastic.

The Ref.

I worked in a movie theater when it came out and it looked like the stupidest piece of crap ever. And I snuck in at the end of a shift to laugh at it, and was shocked at how funny it was. Although at the time I didn't know who Kevin Spacey and Judy Davis were either. Very underrated comedy.

High Fidelity. Total date picks the movie, had no desire to see it, and it's up there in my all-time favorite movies now.
