Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
Maybe the second or third time I saw it. It starts out as a drama and then becomes a comedy for 20 minutes.
I hope there is a sequel. Just kidding

Maniac (1980)
The 4K Restoration of this film is fantastic.
Although some of portions of the film's Plot are odd & clunky, this film is still an absolute classic.

Nobody's Fool (2018) — Didn't really laugh (or even chuckle) and yet another movie where Tiffany Haddish, who many critics praise to the moon, was absolutely obnoxious in every scene she was in. That's now 0/3 for me with her (Girls Trip, Night School being the other two terrible movies). 1.0/5

I thought Girl's Trip was OK, especially compared to the white girls version Rough Night. Night School I was surprised at how few laughs were in it given the talent involved. The funniest part of that were the outtakes. I've got Nobody's Fool in my Netflix Queue but you are making me have second thoughts.

Mandy (2018)
Second-time viewing.
Some of the characterizations are a bit goofy but I definitely enjoyed this film more the second time around.

The action scenes kept me from turning it off but all in all not a great movie. The unknowns did well with what they had to work with, but seemingly modern haircuts and modern phrases ruined the period piece. Largely boring outside the battle sequences. Even the "come-upance" scene in the finale was anti-climactic. I waited two hours to see that conniving, smirking bastard gets what coming to him and that's the best you can do? King Arthur Directors Cut from 2004 was far superior.

The Gift (2015)
Surprisingly well made even though it borrows from quite a few (similar) Thrillers from the 1990s.
Didn't enjoy the ending.

David Spade plays the villain in this drama
Great movie and Oscar Isaac and Ben Kingsley were great in it.
Oscar Isaac one of the more underrated guys working in Hollywood lately.
Nick Kroll a guy you associate mostly with comedy is doing more dramatic work lately

The Front Runner (2018) — Well acted but ultimately unnecessary political drama that features some great performances from Jackman, Farmiga and Simmons, just don't know why it was needed. 3.0/5
Horror Express (1972) — Fun enough fantasy-horror with somewhat of a zombie thrown in. Nothing great, but nice seeing Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing teaming up together again. 3.5/5

Intolerable Cruelty - Obviously lesser Coen Brother film. There's a couple gigantic plot holes that make no sense...I know they didn't write the original script and only came aboard after being asked to do a rewrite, but they could've made a much better movie. As I've said before, I haven't liked a single Coen Brother movie that has starred George Clooney...He seems to bring out their worst instincts...Really wish they'd avoid working with him...
Ready Player One - Hated the first 45 minutes or so, but it suddenly picked up and I found the end somewhat compelling. I did like all of the video game/movie/TV references that were strewn throughout (they must've had like dozens of lawyers who had to work to clear all of those cameos). Ultimately, it's nothing really special. Just kind of a typical Spielberg movie...
Gosford Park - I remember hating this one when I initially saw it in the theatres on opening day. I think I was just too young, at the time, to appreciate its nuances and whatnot. And, yet, while I still feel it's overrated, I've grown to like it a lot more. It's a bit long, but the acting is pretty great all-around, and the dialogue is pretty interesting. I really liked Kelly McDonald and Clive Owen in this...And Bob Balaban was on top-form, as usual...

Lots and lots of great actors/actresses in this movie but I found the story lacking...I just didn't find the way the story was structured that compelling...The bones of the story are there, but I just didn't think the script was that good...

Cube (1997)
Love re-visiting this film.
Still think Maurice Dean Wint's character (Quentin) is both effective and awkward/stiff.

Well done movie just not real entertaining. Never saw the original. Two hours of watching men be brutalized. Did you know France was still executing people by guillotine up until 1977? It wasn't until 1981 it was abolished.

A Star is Born (2018) — This is I think the sixth adaptation and truth be told, never seen any of the others. So that said, I thought this was a well acted film and truly a star was born with Lady Gaga who was fantastic and was wonderful opposite Bradley Cooper, doing a nice job serving as co-writer and director. Nothing overly mind-blowing but I did like some of the songs and I did genuinely care about these characters. 4.0/5

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
I disagree. They are both good films, but IMO the original is way better because of Susanne Lothar as the wife.
Naomi Watts is a great actress, but her role seems more sexualized. Maybe that's what Haneke wanted.

Muay Thai Warrior (2010)
I watched it last night on the Hi-Yah! streaming service....Yes, that's the real name.
Thai martial arts movie with some Japanese actors and dialogue. It was pretty good and had some good fight sequences. It was supposedly based on real historical events.
This movie is also available on physical media via Well Go USA.
