Shot beautifully with great visual moments strewn about. As a film overall it missed the mark with me personally.

tried to see this at least. gave it about 12 minutes with no actual words being spoken and turned it off.

Robocop remake 3.5/5

I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I like that it actually had a story and not just a bunch of shit being blown up.

Singapore Sling - 4/5

A wounded private eye on the trail of a woman that he has fallen in love with winds up getting much more than he bargained for. The trail leads him to a house in an isolated area that is occupied by a mother and her daughter who are insane. Barely alive he is imprisoned by the women and forced to participate in their games of bondage and torture. A strange combination of film noir mixed with black comedy and exploitation, that is both beautiful and repulsive. Reminds me of Laura, Sunset Boulevard, Tales from the Gimli Hospital, Salo, Grey Gardens and The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover.

DCP. Must've been the restoration put together for the Blu, because it looked pretty damn good. Unfortunately, the chattering kids in front of me were irritating. They shut up once we got to the second half. The pair of adults next to me, unfortunately, did not. I'll never get to see it in 35mm, so I guess this is the next best thing. I'd forgotten what a terrific film it is, with all of the baggage it (perhaps unjustly) carries because of all of bad summer blockbusters in its wake.

EDIT: Can't find a damn smaller picture!

interesting film of superstar DJ's and their superstar ego's causing one of EDM's most popular acts to implode on itself. Crash and burn.... crash and burn.

Night at the Golden Eagle - 2.5/5

After being released from prison a petty criminal well past his prime hooks up with his old partner and stays with him at a fleabag hotel. They make plans to move to Las Vegas and starting a new crime free life as blackjack dealers. All seems fine until a run-in with a hooker who works for a brutal pimp threatens to destroy their new lives before they've even started. A bleak low budget film with some decent acting that could have been better if it weren't so predictable.

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008) on Netflix streaming. It wasn't an easy watch by any stretch, but it wasn't quite the prolonged gut punch I was expecting from reviews here and elsewhere, which was probably for the best (and, yes, I do have a kid). Recommended for anyone who wants to be reminded how resilient people can be, how shitty people can be, and/or why Newfoundland sucks.

Little Boy Blue - 4/5

A young man living in rural Texas puts up with the daily abuses of his father who is a deranged Vietnam vet. As the story progresses we start to uncover the dirty little secrets of his dysfunctional family. Good film about how the after effects of Vietnam can still be felt and passed on to the next generation. Some good acting by Ryan Phillipe (I never thought I'd say that) and John Savage.

well, you could tell it was such a JAWS ripoff as well. so blatant and stupid. hardly any effects and the giant squid was just normal but using the stupid camera angles was made to look larger than actual. and the dubbing was terrible as well...

Spring Breakers - 4/5

After robbing a restaurant, four college girls use the money to head to Florida for spring break. After being arrested at a party they are bailed out by a gangster/rapper/drug dealer. He introduces them to the criminal lifestyle and soon the party turns into a nightmare. James Franco's gives an Oscar caliber performance in this scathing critique of modern pop culture. IMO this is possibly Harmony Korine's best film. Second time viewing and I hated it the first time but liked it the second.
