Cursed (2005) — Seems like an apt title for everything that happened behind the scenes. If not for Justice League (which cost $250M+), this might be the poster child of what happens when a studio messes around with a project. Honestly I really hope one day we get a documentary and even some footage of the various cuts and actors who were removed. As for the movie itself, it's surprising that it at least was watchable though hardly good. **½/***** (Shout Factory Blu-ray)

Boring and stupid

I was not impressed with the British knockoff of Josh Gad either.

Movie projects yes, but he's been pretty busy on the TV circuit with Fringe, The Affair and Dr. Death.

And in his defense, the rest of the cast save for maybe Jesse Eisenberg hasn't had great luck either.

Girls Nite Out (1982) — The first 45 minutes I was bored and didn't care about any of these characters and their relationships being set up, and honestly there were a few I couldn't distinguish from others. The remaining 40-minutes had a couple okay kills but I found myself zoning out a time or two. This is just another forgettable (and bland) slasher film to come out of the early 80s. *½/***** (Blu-ray)

Hulu

Mark Rylance excelled and Depp and Pattinson were ok but this was really slow and not that exciting.

Starz

A creepy story set in Australia with two moms who date each others sons though I found it fascinating.

It would be hard to pass up on Naomi Watts if you had the chance.

I enjoy many movies with Jason Statham...but this movie is plagued with poor constant shaky camera movements which distracted me all throughout the movie. The original with Charles Bronson is better even though this one got some great action scenes.

My rating: ★★ of 5

Crush - Hulu. LGBTQ+ comedy/drama that stars the girl from Girl Meets World. It was not an earth shatteringly good film, but I enjoyed it well enough.

A bunch of public domain B-movies on Tubi. The best of the bunch was Eyes in the Night (1941). A blind private detective with a wonderful seeing-eye dog solves a murder and foils a Nazi spy ring. The rebellious teenager is Donna Reed. It takes seriously how blind people deal with the world, because the author of the source books instructed blinded veterans.

What is a public domain B movie? That is a term I never heard of before.

Showtime

If you guessed Frank Grillo plays another sleazeball you win a million dollars

A "Heat" type shootout at the end but not nearly as good.

I meant a B movie that's in the public domain.

Showtime

Dating in the social media age

Boring

I remember the lead Jaboukie Young-White was in Crashing where he played the young comedian who got his big break before the Pete Holmes character.

Amazonia: The Catherine Miles Story (1985) — Better than expected exploitation flick with a decent performance from Elvire Audray, plus some gnarly scenes though feels longer than the 90-minute running time. ***/***** (Blu-ray)

A few days ago I watched Under the Shadow, the Iranian horror film of several years ago. It was somehow even more insufferable than The Babadook, which it closely resembles, along with dozens of other unwatchably cloying, boring films about youngsters being menaced by imaginary creatures. At least it was reasonably brief. 2/10

Then I viewed The Lost Daughter, which was a good deal better, even if the main character and her motivations never really come into focus. At any rate, it's a welcome surprise to see an American film with a lead actress who is middle-aged and normal-looking, not all botoxed and dolled-up like most. 6/10

HBO

It was ok and better than El Canto Lin Manuels other project.

Melissa Barrera is a smokeshow and she was in that new Scream reboot too.
