Time Trap - Netflix

It’s low budget sci-fi, but I fucking loved this movie.

Rabid Shout! "Collector's Edition"
Marilyn Chambers. Directed by David Cronenberg. 1977
A woman who's hospitalized after a near-fatal motorcycle accident. She eventually recovers but is mysteriously transformed into a blood-sucking predator. Her victims develop a virulent rabies-like condition that drives them to violent, foaming-mouthed madness.

David Cronenberg's follow-up to "Shivers", with Porn actress Marilyn Chambers. I remember the theatrical ads running on late-night local television in The '70s and being creeped-out by them. A really terrific Horror Exploitation movie full of nudity and gore and rampant Canadian-ness. It never makes much sense but it is effective if you're willing to give an older low-budget B-movie a break. This is an excellent package with terrific supplements. The Picture Quality is nicely beefed up, though the flesh-tones are a bit over-heated.

Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Love this film. No surprises here.

Followed (2020)

Found Footage Horror film and Debut Feature for Director Antoine Le.

If Director Antoine Le's goal was to make the most obnoxious & unlikable Lead Character, he succeeded.

The film is effective in its scares, largely due to it's strong presentation & great set locations. Characters are written thin and the ending is a bit unearned.

This is on the Criterion Channel as part of their 70’s Horror Collection.

Friday the 13th Prime Video Canada

I wasn’t impressed at all even with the young Kevin Bacon.

The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One - a low-budget sci-fi movie. Definitely "B-movie" territory here. As such, it's not great, but not awful. Decent visuals. Some recognizable actors (Kellan Lutz, Rachel Griffiths, Isabel Lucas). The story is unoriginal and it's a bit cheesy, but If you like the genre it might be worth a watch.

The Haunting (1999) — Pretty good cast, decent enough effects for its time but a lame movie. Saw this one before years ago, didn't care for it then, opinion remains the same today. Makes complete sense why Spielberg had his name removed. **/*****

Peggy Sue Got Married (1986)

I watched this for the 1st time ever last night. Have always wanted to see it, but just always forgot about it. It was cute. Kind of a fun take on the time traveling genre. I loved the setting in the 1960s.

Lots of familiar faces in this aside from Turner and Cage. It was interesting seeing Turner play Helen Hunt's Mom when she's only 10 years older than her. Cage was actually kind of charming in this one.

Was this your 1st time seeing it or a re-visit after many years?

It's my least favorite of the F13 movies.

Possessor (2020)

I wasn't a huge fan of Brandon Cronenberg's Debut, Antiviral, but I really enjoyed this.

Everything is tighter & more strange this time around, which I loved. The cast, performances and Cinematography by Karim Hussain are great as well.

I also watched the Unrated version of the 1st Friday the 13th last night from the new Scream Factory set.

It's probably my least favorite of the series.

Bloodfight (1989)Not terribly well made, in fact the editing is at times atrociously jarring and the characters not developed all that great, with our main hero, Kai, early on takes on a street thug as a protégé before seeing, shocker, the guy was also an a-hole, beating up innocent civilians. Perplexing decision making. The film does give Bolo Yeung a bit more to do compared with Ironheart and there is one effective scene, in which he outright commits murder, but otherwise the martial arts fights are standard and the story could’ve use some tightening. *¾/*****

I wondered why we never did a quarantine movie club thread, but I guess that is sort of what this is. I just don't much attention to the sticky threads. Since I've been working at home since March, I've often referred to this as a time I've been preparing for for more than twenty years.

As for the last movie I watched, I finished three yesterday (XxX, the Yards, and the one listed below). They were all first time watches. I'm also currently in the middle of five other films.

But to meet the goal of the thread, the last movie I finished was Carlito's Way: Rise to Power. Definitely not a movie that required my undivided attention. I noticed Jay Hernandez very much trying to do Al Pacino's Carlito voice during the narration, but I didn't really notice it all during his performance. Strange that they did not include any other younger versions of characters in the story. I did enjoy Hildy from Mad Men in it though.

I always thought that I seen it before but I was wrong after watching it. It was my first time because I was wrong about the killer.

I must have watched one of the sequels and confused it with the first film.

I like most of Ryan Phillippe's past work. He was good on Shooter on USA.

But, this movie (which came out a month ago) is horrible. Total Die Hard rip-off. And it's super cheap looking.

and worst off, it ends on a fucking cliffhanger.

Pete's Dragon (2016) - I've been watching a lot of Redford movies over the last six months so that's how this got watched. Saw the original a long time ago (it's theatrical run), but I don't really remember much about it. I'm not the target audience, but this was fine...nothing really more than that.

The Hunt - I liked it, but it seemed to be missing a sense of urgency--especially considering the situation. Gilpin's character is a badass, so I get why she keeps her calm, but there was an overall lack of tension. The fight scenes were well done, though, especially the boss fight at the end.

Peppermint - A re-watch that I started a couple of weeks ago. Not a great film, but I am a sucker for Garner and for revenge flicks so I found it just as watchable the second time around. Still not sure why they decided to kill Michael Mosley's lawyer character off screen though. In fact, I didn't even catch the dialogue that she had killed him the night before the first time I watched it so I kept waiting for him to show up.

American Ultra - I watched Adventureland for the first time a few weeks ago, so I figured I'd give this reteaming of Eisenberg and Stewart a go. Kinda fun, if more than a bit silly. The two leads are okay, but their characters don't require much heavy lifting in the acting department. Topher Grace was good as the douchebag agent, but Connie Britton steals the show as the CIA agent who goes rogue to protect her asset.

Irresistible (2020)

Political satire with Steve Carrell, Chris Cooper and Rose Byrne.

Not really a fan of this genre, but I liked this movie. It was a good 1 time watch. There was charm and the cast was solid and had some funny banter.

Memories of Murder (2003)

Love this film. I've watched it countless times and I've yet to grow tired of it.

Eventually, I need to upgrade my DVD to Blu-Ray. Hopefully I'll be able to catch a screening of the remastered re-release next week in theaters.

Slither (1973) - Not the James Gunn movie. This one has James Caan as a recently released ex-con who gets in a series of quirky adventures. I bought this on iTunes a few weeks ago and liked it quite a bit.

Race to Witch Mountain - It had been about a decade since I had seen this so I didn't remember much. Still, I like the Rock, and I'll watch Carla Gugino in anything....or rather anything that doesn't star Pauly Shore. Based on today's Rock it was interesting seeing him in his late 00's comparatively normal size man days, and it had been awhile since I had seen a movie of his with hair. As for the movie itself, it was just ok.
