Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
Captain Marvel...just phenomenal. truly the beginnings of the entire MCU and sheds light on the events prior to the entire MCU. the first Avenger in all her glory. loved everything about it. the action, the humor and most certainly the heart. this has the heart of a mountain lion and it evades the whole movie. from the opening Stan Lee montage tribute (which gave me chills) to the awesome 90's soundtrack to the kick ass mid-credits sequence when she just appears with the remaining Avengers. when "I'm Just a Girl" by No Doubt played, i lost it (as it's one of my all time favorite songs). was just the perfect amount of everything that has made the MCU a juggernaut. Larson was great. Jackson was great. Mendelsohn, just great. the twists and turns, well done. loved the Phase 1 and name change to Fury's document. it all resonated from beginning to the end. it's not my #1, but does rank very high up for me. just bought into it all.

Audition (1999) — Interesting, if not weird, movie that takes a surreal turn in the third act. Still not sure what to think of it but if you're someone who doesn't like needles or anything involving your eyes, it will make you uncomfortable. I will say Eihi Shiina was utterly terrifying. 3.75/5

You're So Cool Brewster! The Story of Fright Night (2016)
Incredibly extensive Documentary on the making of Fright Night (1985).
At (almost) 217-minutes, this Documentary leaves no stone unturned and devotes proper time to all aspects of the film.

Captain Marvel (2019)
Enjoyed the film, even though I wasn't 100% in-love with it.
The middle section of the film drags a bit and Brie Larson's performance is a bit inconsistent.

Am reading a book on Auschwitz so a movie about rounding up these kids to put them into camps wasn't all that great.

Quite the tearjerker but not in a manipulative way. All the stories of the foster kids abuse were written by one who grew up in the system.

It would have been cool if Willem Dafoe had a role in the film and not just serve as the narrator.
Sia wrote all the songs.
It was alright but left me unsatisfied.

DIS (2017)
Mostly dialogue-free Art/Horror film from Director/Writer Adrian Corona.
Fantastic Cinematography & visual set-pieces throughout the film.
The film suffers when small portions of dialogue do make their way into scenes. Not helping matters is how odd they sound in the overall mix of the film, hurting the atmosphere set by the first 20-minutes of the film.
It also features another solid performance by Bill Oberst Jr.

Assassins (1995) — Someone forgot to tell Banderas wasn't in a cheesy Stallone 80s thriller. Movie itself was fine but not all that well acted in any respect, though the dialogue (written by the Wachoskis) was pretty bad as well. 3.0/5
Iron Man (2008) — Decided to watch this for a third time (last viewing was probably a decade ago) and still holds up with actually some good visual effects (better than the effects in some more recent Marvel movies) and a well done origin story. Robert Downey Jr. is fantastic. That said, seems like a blesssing in disguise for Marvel that Rhodes was recast because in hindsight and compared with Cheadle, Howard just did not fit that role. 4.25/5

I liked it though it was predictable and almost a complete rehash of Rocky IV.
Not a fan of all the hip hop music on the soundtrack.

My Own Private Idaho (1991)
Didn't care for it one bit. Nothing to do with the characters being gay. They are just annoying assholes most of them. I know it's an important film for the homosexual community but it's still not a very moving film. Reeves was bad as usual and Phoenix was doing an impression of cool 50s icons like Dean or Brando instead of playing a character. I guess some people did like it so what do I know!

Into the Forest - 2.5/5
Post-apocalyptic drama about two sisters trying to survive in a house in the middle of the woods as society deteriorates due to a power failure. Not bad, has some powerful moments, but then the rest feels like a Lifetime movie.

Raw Deal (1986)
I watched this on Hoopla, the library streaming service. It's not available on DVD or BD right now in the USA.
I'm surprised this was a box office bomb, especially during Arnold's hey day and the year after Commando.
Anyways, I had not seen this is probably 20+ years and it was good, but definitely dated. It's an old school undercover agent fighting against the Mob.

Not a huge Julia Roberts fan but she was good in this and I am a sucker for a movie set in the snow.

Rocksteady Row (2018)
Dystopian Future where College Tuition has skyrocketed and Evil Deans & Fraternities rule with an iron hand on Campus.
I thought I was the Demographic for this film (especially with it's 80s flair) but I didn't like the film at all.
It's too concerned with filling itself with cool Cinematography and/or references, rather than putting together a coherent story.

A fun and exciting movie on a rainy day.
Glad I have it in my collection.

You were correct, watched this last night and thought it was excellent. While, in terms of political movies from last year, I would rate Chappaquiddick slightly above this one (and I still need to see Vice)...Hugh Jackman delivered a very nuanced, subtle performance in this one...Which I appreciated...
