Michael Mann needs to go back to using actual film-stock instead of digital video...I agree that his Miami Vice was horrible, but I almost hate Public Enemies even more because (A) The source material (the book by Bryan Burroughs) was excellent and deserved much, much better, and (B) the film was set mostly in the 1930s, and the digital video looked way out of place. It just looked too slick for a movie that was supposed to be about gangsters of the 1930s like Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, etc...And it did a disservice to the acting talents of Depp and Bale, as I thought both were really well cast, just poorly used in Mann's movie (I also thought Channing Tatum was great in his brief role but it was too much of a brief role...I think he played Pretty Boy Floyd and should had a larger role in the movie)...And Marion Cotillard, who I usually like, wasn't that great in the movie and far too much time was spent on her character...

Public Enemies was bad too and I expected more and Black Hat was a big mess.
Hope Mann recaptures his magic for his next project with the Sam Giancana and Tony Accardo mob project. |

Blockers (2018)...this was not good. can't believe the decent reviews and return. such a generic, bland twist on American Pie without the raunch and most importantly the funny. i laughed maybe twice. the script was terrible. only Ike Barinholtz, playing totally against type and only rational one, was decent, but again he is a comedian and was not in this. weird. Cena was good in the small doses in Trainwreck, but in a large dose like this? terrible. Mann played same character as usual, but more kooky and stupid. the three HS girls were totally forgettable. it was just not a great movie despite what the critics and audiences that saw it say and paid.

7 Days in Entebbe (2018) — Competently made, this true story should have been suspenseful but instead was mostly quite dull though the performances from Daniel Bruhl and Rosamund Pike were pretty good. However, the juxtaposition between the dancers and rescue screamed, to quote Film Brain, "SYMBOLISM!" instead of being the intended powerful message. 2.5/5 |

I'll watch Rosamund Pike read a toothpaste tube so I will catch this eventually but I have heard nothing positive about it. Should have been in the same category as ARGO. Even with the dramatic license taken with the actual events, it was an entertaining movie. I would have hoped for the same from this one.
If you want your Rosamund Pike fix, Beirut was slightly better and did get solid reviews from the pros. |

McCabe & Mrs Miller (1971) Decent Altman film set up north in the frontier development period (19th century) when towns rose in the middle of nowhere as decided by a few settlers. Here, a willing but small thinking businessman (Warren Beatty) sets up a whore house in a small growing village with the help of a knowledgeable prostitute (Julie Christie). But land developers have other plans for the town... I liked the slow rhythm and the unclear relation between the two leads. Also the not so happy ending... |

Sherlock Season 1 Not as surprising second time around but still fun. I enjoy the fact that they made Holmes REALLY unsufferable. Moriarty is a bit over the top though. |

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) Reboots? Are they really necessary or just a ploy by studios to make easy money both from new fans and nostalgic ones. Here, what's the point of rebooting a character that was relaunched barely a decade ago? Not awful but not helpful. |
Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
I agree and people are stupid and will pay money at the theater to watch a reboot of a movie that came out in 2002.

Saw this on the Audience Network on Directv. I thought it was entertaining (It might be a little predictable) and I bet all the Trump supporters would hate this movie though they should see it and maybe have more compassion. |

Won't You Be My Neighbor (2018) Currently in limited release. Excellent documentary about the life and legacy of Fred Rogers. If you were born in the 70s or 80s, you probably grew up watching Mr. Rogers Neighborhood on PBS. |

Daniel the Tiger was my favorite.
http://images2.fanpop.com/images/pho...81-340-504.jpg Liked it better the second time. Anna Faris who I am not a big fan of was smoking in this movie. Interesting choice of music for the soundtrack. |

A mentally frail woman is committed to a mental institution after being evaluated by a counselor who believes she may be a danger to herself. While there she starts to question whether she has actually lost her sanity or if there is a conspiracy against her. Good psychological thriller from Steven Soderbergh. |

You can take the girl out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the girl. Filmmakers admitted to getting wildly different versions of events from those interviewed and went on to make an entertaining feature with a conglomeration of all of them. Harding admittedly was pretty fucked up with an abusive husband and an even more abusive mother. My wife is a special ed teacher and 9 times out of 10, the kids are fucked up because the parents are fucked up. Doesn't excuse any criminal behavior on her part but I believe there were many aspects of her life she had no control over. I read where the Kerrigan camp thought it was overly supportive or sympathetic to Harding. It certainly showed the crap show she grew up in. Showed the attack but didn't show any of the effects on Kerrigan. |

Incredibles 2 (2018)
A little disappointing, even though I had a good time with a majority of the film. The 14 year gap between the first and second film definitely hurt it. |

Tragedy Girls (2017)
Tedious and not nearly as clever as it believes it is. |

Tag...pretty decent comedy. nothing overwhelmingly outrageous, but some nice moments, humorous moments and generally fun. seeing the real guys at end was cool.

Noroi: The Curse (2005)
While it does have issues with overall length & pacing, I always enjoy how wonderfully creepy & mysterious this film is. |
