Cartouche (1964)

Amusing and typical Philippe de Broca/Jean-Paul Belmondo film with the usual adventures, stunts and clever banter. A young Claudia Cardinale stars and sizzles! Fun but not a masterpiece by far.

The Guardian (1990)

William Friedkin's film is fun when it's being hokey, playing like a gory version of The Hand That Rocks The Cradle (1992) with druids!

It doesn't play in that circle too much and ends up being a bit of a bore for most of its run-time.

Where is Kyra? (2018) — Haunting performance by Michelle Pfeiffer and it's nice to see her make a comeback between this and Ant-Man and the Wasp, though the story itself wasn't all that enthralling and was way too dark (makes Snyder movies look bright and brilliantly colorful). Also wasn't wild about the experimental score, not sure what would've wrong with something more traditional. 3.25/5

It was not as bad as it looked but still wonder why Michael Caine did this movie?

Starz only showed it once with no upcoming airings.

First Reformed (2018) — It's rather apparent now I'm not a fan of Paul Schrader, the one time I saw Bringing Out the Dead, I didn't care very much for it, though I did like Taxi Driver. This one had me laughing more than taking anything seriously, and that's even more before the "controversial" final 15-minutes. IDK, Ethan Hawke did give a passionate performance but otherwise I regret sitting through this thing. And yes, I know I'm in the vast minority. 2.25/5

Mile 22 - Iko rocks, so if you want to watch films that truly highlight his abilities then watch The Raid, The Raid 2, and Headshot.

Mile 22 awful is awful, though.

Mission Impossible

Definitely the most action packed of the bunch. Kind of reminded me of Taken in that once the action starts it doesn't slow down very much. At 2:20 it's exhausting by the end. I'm an action porn junkie and even I found it a bit much. I have loved Michelle Monaghan since first seeing her in The Heartbreak Kid. She is girl next door personified.

It was decent though the ending was heartbreaking and kind of a bummer.

Summer of 84 (2018)

RKSS have the look and feel of the film down but most of the script (which they were not responsible for) is rough.

At least the Third Act was interesting.

3 Ninjas (1992)

Even though its mostly tedious, it does have it's entertaining moments (mostly when its shamelessly borrowing from other films).

Did not know this was based on a video game. This is exactly the popcorn movie you would expect from a premise like this. Usually like Malin Akerman but found her quite miscast in this.

Fun movie but knowing the deaths have to be temporary somehow took the tension out.

I watched WolfCop tonight. It's pretty ridiculous, but I actually didn't hate it. It had a couple twists that I did not see coming. 2.75/5

The Devil's Candy - 1.5/5

A painter and his family move into a new house that he was able to obtain at a bargain because it was the scene of a murder-suicide. After moving in, he falls under the influence of the same supernatural forces responsible for the tragic demise of the previous tenants. Had me going for the first act, but the more I kept watching, the more ridiculous it got.

Bound (1996) — Not sure why this didn't receive any Academy Award nominations, but still a great modern film noir featuring wonderful performances all around. Seen it now 2-3 times and still works so well. Kind of wish the Wachowski's would go back to the basics like this. 4.25/5

This movie would have been better if they just talked about Scifi at the pub. Once they time travel plot kicked in I lost interest.

Hereditary - 2/5

Creepy, atmospheric, well acted film (especially by Toni Collette) that should have quit while it was ahead. The disappointing third act with its cheap scares and poor man’s Polanski type ending ruined it for me.

Strange, I watched this a few days ago as well. Hadn't seen it in a long time and it is still excellent. Agree with you the the Wachawski sisters should move away from teenage scifi and go back to more serious stuff.

I, Tonya (2017)

I originally thought this was a biopic with sappy story but when I noticed it was often referred to as black comedy I decided to check it out. It is in fact very funny and well-done overall with nice little directing and editing tricks (not necessarily new but well paced). Margot Robbie which I found annoying in Suicide Squad is rather good here. But her mother steals the show. And the bodyguard who thinks he's James Bond. Wot=rth a check even if you hate figure skating (which I do) and don't know anything about that story.

The Amytiville Horror (1979)

I didn't hink much of this when I'd seen it a decade or so ago. Still, very unsatisfying 'true story' of haunted house. We don't really get any scares nor feel for the characters. Only redeeming bit (if that) is Rod Steiger's character and his discussions with Church authorities.

I wonder if they've become addicted to the bigger budget stuff now. But considering the, to put it kindly, lackluster box office of their recent works, they just might have to go back to the lower budgeted, more independent projects.

Blast (1997) — Incompetently made but watchable and cheesy mid-90s action movie with some hilariously bad moments, namely Rutger Hauer's dreadlock ponytails, and terribly emotionless acting. Not even Wishmaster himself could make the bad guy all that interesting. 2.0/5

I watched it a second time and it sucks.

I thought maybe I was tired the first time I watched it in 2003 and did not pay attention but the ending was so stupid and makes everything that happened before a waste of time.

Dial M for Murder (1954)

Nice adaptation by Hitcchcock of (probably) a play. A few far fetched bits but otherwise captivating if you don't mind older films. My 12 years old son was captivated and very much stressed out to see how the plot would develop.
