Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
I watched Phantom Thread today for $5 as part of the Regal Best Picture Film Festival. I loved how it was shot and the Hitchcockian feel that it has, but it was very slow and too long. I was also a bit confused by the ending, but I would watch it again. 3/5

9/11 I'd heard now lousy this movie was but I am a sucker for historical events based drama. This was basically a TV movie brought to the big screen. Apparently entirely fictional events other than the fact there were probably people stuck in the elevators. I still find it ironic that Charlie Sheen was asked or he accepted this movie since he also narrated a 9/11-truther documentary and is said to believe it was a conspiracy from within. 1/5 but at a brisk 90 minutes it was worth it just to postulate on the real people stuck in the buildings.
I'm not a glutton for extras but a nice featurette on a real elevator event would have been nice. Was anyone rescued or escape from the elevators? I know the story of the last guy to leave the restaurant and he went down moments before the plane hit.

Django Unchained- been meaning to watch this since the dvd came out, it wasent bad felt prolonged in places and rushed in others. but I enjoyed it. 4/5
Only The Brave - I went into watching it knowing nothing about the real life events and it ended in a way I didn't picture. I really liked it and the acting. 5/5
The Mountain Between Us. Plane crash's and two people have to survive and find a way out. its been done before but i really like the lead actors and i liked the movie alot 5/5
The Darkness - If it wasent for liking the cast I wouldnt have bothered it wasent terrible but it was predictable and standard. 2.5/5

How true. And contrary to that old adage it seems to me crime often does pay.
Thx for mentioning Sacred Deer and Mother! -- will have to check those out.
filière 13 (File 13, 2010)
Québec comedy-drama. Two police officers whose careers and personal lives are falling apart, one a tough undercover cop afflicted with debilitating migraines, the other a PR suit increasingly prone to panic attacks when addressing groups, salvage their careers and their lives when they capture a scumbag who pocketed millions in the federal Liberal Party's sponsorship scandal. Amusing.
belle de jour (1967)
A physician's young wife (Catherine Deneuve) who fantasizes about rough sex begins working afternoons in a high-end brothel. When one of her clients becomes enamoured of her the consequences are tragic. The final scene speaks volumes about the character Deneuve portrays in the film.

Volcano (1997) - Might be the lesser volcano-centric movie of 1997 but still entertaining especially since I generally enjoy disaster movies. 3.5/5

I watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri this evening and I enjoyed it. It has a great cast and really good performances, but I don't think it's the best movie of 2017. 3.75/5

Ransom - i haddent watched it in some time and I still like it just as much as before. 4/5
The Man From Uncle - never saw the tv show but i liked the movie enough to give the show a try. 5/5
Nowhere Boy - I liked it alot just wish it lead more into the starting relationship of the Beatles and that, seemed too short. 4.5/5
The Negotiator - liked it good preformances all around 5/5
Nightcrawler - kinda dark and a bleak outlook on how people want to see the news but believable and i think thats why it worked 4/5
Aftermath - Arnold Schwarzenegger did a great job in this but I think it was held back due to it going mostly straight to on demand/dvd so alot of people are overlooking it 5/5
The Mechanic - standard issue assassin/action flick 3/5
The Mechanic Resurrection - much like the first not a movie to break any new ground cinema wise but still entertaining 3/5
Alone In Berlin - really fantastic movie I like movies like this based on real events and its hard to believe the Nazis were so angry over postcards with simple messages against them being placed around a city 5/5

These people were pretty out there. Back in the 40's at one of the heights of conformity, the professor, his wife and their mistress all lived together as one. To call them progressive for their day is an understatement. They would be considered radicals or subversives in the day. Because of this unconventional lifestyle they were forced to move and found employment difficult. Through a series of fortunate events into their exploration of alternate lifestyles including bondage, he is inspired to create Wonder Woman.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread
Matthew McConaughy gained 45 lbs with a diet of cheeseburgers & milk shakes
LOL. Hollywood has also ignored my innate capability for rapid weight gain (especially after a Halloween when fewer than expected yard apes turn up trick or treating and we're left with hundreds of snack-sized chocolate bars!). And as part of the "follcally challenged" at an early age demographic I wouldn't even have had to shave my head for McConaughy's role!
Vanishing Point (1971)
Road movie that apparently bombed in its US theatrical release but was a critical and commercial success in the UK & Europe and went on to develop a cult following. Stars a white 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T equipped with a 440 V-8 engine that was apparently capable of delivering 500+ hp. Film features some incredibly beautiful landscapes in the wide open spaces of the American southwest.
The Revenant (2015)
Nice cinematography (apparently virtually all with natural lighting) that won an Oscar, but not a film I would be likely to sit through again. Unless the air conditioning malfunctioned on a brutally hot night and I thought the frigid settings might make me feel cooler. Apparently loosely based on the story of Hugh Glass, an American fur trader who in 1823 was left by his companions to die in the South Dakota wilderness after he was mauled by a grizzly sow.
Ever After (1998)
Imaginative and amusing take on the Cinderella fable. Anjelica Huston is magnificent as the conniving evil stepmother imo.
Never Let Me Go (2010)
Haunting UK drama based on a best-selling novel by Kazuo Ishiguro. The film follows the short lives (in a society where life expectancy is 100+ years) of three characters who befriend each other during their childhood at the Hailsham residential school. Included in the extras is a series of mock fundraising posters for Hailsham (similar to what one might see in a campaign for the ethical treatment of farm animals) that are very bit as chilling as the film.

Wind River - Netflix. Incredible film and the assault on the woman was harrowing to watch.
I Am Number Four - Netflix. 2nd time I have seen this film and it is still a lot of fun to watch. A bit underrated in my humble opinion.

Coco...thought i would like it more. thought it would be more musical than the story would lead you to believe. started off a little slow, but redeeming in the end. good overall, but not best Pixar by far. even songs weren't too catchy or memorable. i do love the diversity that Pixar and Disney are putting out. between this and the fantastic Moana, they are on the right track to appeal to more audiences. and the cultures are just so interesting and we don't see it depicted all the time in animated or live-action films these days. i think i gave this 4 stars, but more 3.5-4.

Arrival - Hulu. I literally just finished the film and it was fantastic. I did not think it was slow at all and if you have Hulu it is worth checking out.

I watched Point Break (1991) for the first time ever tonight. I really enjoyed it. I think it actually holds up ok for a 27 year old film. My only real negative is Reeves acting. 4/5
