Leviathan (1989)...little seen, underrated creature feature. such a blatant rip off of The Thing and Alien, but i love this one. sillier than i remember, but a lot of fun. Shout did a great job with this one.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant

Picked up a copy on DVD from my summer vacation to China. Meh, I'd give this between a C+ and C. Definitely the weakest of the movies so far. Shailene at least grew some of her hair back from that awful haircut she had in Insurgent. Plot was kind of convoluted. Jeff Daniels was a much weaker villain compared to Kate Winslet in the 1st 2 movies.

Youth (2015)...wow! did i love this one. so beautifully shot, so well acted. emotional, surreal, yet grounded in reality. just amazing. i haven't been this moved in quite awhile. loved everything about this journey. Caine and Keitel were in top form. can't recommend this one highly enough.

Fun movie. Gets extra points from me because it was something both of us could watch.

The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun - 2.5/5

When a secretary takes her boss' car for a joy ride she is mistaken for another woman. Is it mistaken identity or is she the same person and can't remember? A beautiful looking stylistic throwback to the 70's that drips atmosphere that unfortunately drops the ball when the big mystery is revealed. Sorry, I can suspend my disbelief only so much.

Gods of Egypt was alright. Campy fun with some bad casting.

stunning. was expecting something totally different. thought it was turning into an amalgam of Poltergeist and Devil's Backbone, but took so many unexpected twists and turns that i had no idea were coming. this was suspense, mystery, thriller, horror, ghost story all wrapped into one. sublime film.

Wife gave up on this after 5 minutes. Efron plays a better douche than the straight man. Had a few laughs but the 40 years age difference between DeNiro and Plaza skeeved me out. They did make up for it at the end but still pretty weird throughout. Seemed like the screenwriters were wholly dependent on swearing and pushing the R rated envelope instead of developing some actual sophisticated comedy.

Synchronicity (2015) on Netflix, a "small scale" time travel film in the vein of (and considerably inferior to) Primer and Timecrimes. While Brianne Davis is gorgeous, the unconvincing and underdeveloped love story should not have become the focal point.

- The Living Daylights - Starz: From the music to the action (still a huge fan of the ending with those bad ass guns)...one of the better Bond films. Also, there is actual nudity in the film...which surprised me.
- Vice - HBO: Bruce Willis film...wanted to like it more than I did, but I get why it only has a 1 1/2 stars rating.

Spikedragon, that is from Battle Los Angeles, right?

Unfortunately, one of the biggest cinematic let downs I experienced in the last 10 years. It had a great cast and the opportunities for kick ass action set pieces were there but the film just fell flat for me.

I liked the look and feel of it, props to the director, but there is not much substance. Once you find out what's going on you want to punch the writers in the face.

Olympus Has Fallen - TNT: Even though it was the TNT airing vs a premium cable channel airing it looks like most of the action was intact and not removed to accomodate commercials. I am now ready to check out London Has Fallen.

Now You See Me 2 (2016)

Caught a matinee today. Thought it was a really fun caper fantasy. Thought it was just as entertaining as the 1st movie.

The Secret Life of Pets (2016)

Normally I don't see animated movies in the theatre, but I thought this had some laughs and was cute.

Green Room (2015)

So much more intense the 2nd time around. Macon Blair is great in his role!

The To Do List

Stupid, but fun. I love Aubrey Plaza, and I thought Bill Hader and Rachel Bilson were really funny in their roles.
