Yeah, just imagine Pierce Brosnan's face on Daniel Craig's body...

Which one had Sean Connery with that hat? I like that one because of the hat. Too bad they dropped the hat thing because it would've been cool to see the different style of hats throughout the years. If only I could've seen Daniel Craig come out with one of those Beanie/fake beard combos.

When OHMSS came out Connery was in SHALACKO a western so he wasn't out of shape. Anyone notice how Connery looks different in every Bond movie.

I enjoyed LTK but it wasn't cause of Dalton. He's on the bottom of my Bond list.

I really enjoy both Live and Let Die and Man With the Golden Gun, maybe because of that. It helps that they were influenced by blaxploitation movies and HK kung fu movies, respectively, and to me they just successfully bring Bond into the 70s and it feels like a fresh start to the series. I'm a big Moore fan anyways, and I think good use was made of Moore's comic timing along with his more serious side in these two. And I may be in the minority here, but I find Sherriff Pepper and his interaction with Bond to be really funny. Also, Man With the Golden Gun is one of my favorite themes, and they really use the melody well throughout the movie.
You had to be there in 1971 or in the mid 70's when the Bond movies were being shown on t.v. for the first time. It's a joy to see Connery back even though out of shape but very charming and funny.

I'm almost done with OHMSS but I have one question about a previous series of events

Spoiler:

Why was Bond's associate such a moron? It's like he was trying to get caught. Shouldn't he have known that Bond was proceeding with the mission, and to try and climb the mountain was a stupid plan? In fact it seems like he had no purpose to even be there.

Every Bond film has a "sacrifical lamb". A protagonist character killed off by the villians. Usually serves no purpose to advance the plot. Can't remember them all:

Dr. No-Quarrel
FRWL - Kerim Bey
Goldfinger - Tilly Masterson
Thunderball - Paula
YOLT - Aki
OHMSS - mountain guy
Diamonds Are Forever - Plenty O' Toole
Live and Let Die - black girl
Man Golden Gun - Maud Adams character
View To Kill - Sir Geoffrey
Living Daylights - agent killed by sliding door
QoS - Strawberry Fields

Moonraker - whatsherface atacked by dogs
Octopussy - Indian/Pakistani guy
License to Kill - Priscilla Barnes

I love this one too. Granted it's pretty cheesy but it's just a ton of fun to watch. I'd say it's one of my favorite of the Moore era Bond flicks.

The Brosnan films are what got me into Bond in the first place but looking back on them they mostly aren't very good and I think a lot of it is I just don't care for his take on Bond. He has the looks and is a charmer but I just don't buy him as being a tough guy MI6 agent who can kick ass. Timothy Dalton to me is way underrated for his take on Bond. I really wish he'd have gotten the chance to do a couple more Bond films.

Not Austin Powers. Maybe Pepe Lephew if you wanna go in that direction.

Yeah, similar with me...growing up, Roger Moore WAS James Bond...but I didn't realize until I was older that the character was SUPPOSED to be much more serious and less jokey.

I think "Diamonds Are Forever" has some choice lines in it. But the whole movie feels...weird.

My favorite Bond is still "From Russia With Love". Bond actually spying.

Re: Favorite Bond Film?

Yeah DAF feels like it should not have happened. The disparity between the tonality of 1969 OHMSS and 1971 DAF is probably the greatest of any Bond movie ever. More than 1989 LTK and 1995 GE or 1985 AVTAK and 1987 TLD.

Michael Musto interviewed Roger Moore for his column in the Village Voice last week and Moore had high praise for Craig and the recent Bond films.

Ah thanks. I remember liking Quarrel...never did like how James just walked on after he got toasted!

Good thoughts from Moore but wow that article has a terrible transition. Randomly switches to two paragraphs of the writer talking to Kristen Stewart.

That's always been Musto's style. We're kind'a used to it in New York. This one's actually much smoother than normal for him.

Re: Favorite Bond Film?

Goldfinger is the first modern action movie. Like what constituted an action scene before Goldfinger? North by Northwest and the cropduster scene I guess but that's still filmed more traditionally, Goldfinger looks more like what we see today - frenetic and absurd, with the story sometimes taking a backseat. The bad guy had an actual plan, as opposed the copout world domination which is still in many Bond or Bond-like movies. Goldfinger is hilarious and sets a standard for one liners - every time he says shocking at the beginning I laugh my ass off. Goldfinger is partially responsible for getting rid of the Hayes code and moving to a ratings system - in the past the studios would dub over risque lines, but this was expected to be an enormous hit and one of the characters is freaking named Pussy Galore. I think Goldfinger is the only one I'd describe as a great movie. I also like how From Russia with Love is an actual spy movie, and Goldeneye was a return to silliness after the drab Timothy Dalton era, but I think those are merely good.
