IMO, there is a good amount of gore and violence in the Saw movies. It's not your traditional slasher movie, but I think what makes it entertaining was it being essentially 1 giant movie broken up into 7 parts. Each part ended in a cliffhanger, which made me want to see another one the following Halloween.

Friday the 13th. Obviously ripping off Halloween, but the kills were much more brutal.

As others have mentioned, the kills were awesome and in general the films stayed pretty fun (sans a couple!)

Maybe he prefers Jennifer Love Hewitt's big jugs to Saw. I know I do. He did put other. It's not like he left the other option out and said "Nope, these are the only horror franchises." I know I tend to forget bland, mediocre movies when thinking about good ones.
