The reason the main title theme seems to complete the fanfare is that it does: John Williams composed the theme in B major — the same key as Alfred Newman's 1933 fanfare — knowing the Fox anthem would lead into his opening notes.

Yeah, it will be weird though, whenever I see a movie that opens with the Fox fanfare, always lean over to my buddy and jokingly say "Is this Star Wars?"

Don't like/understand the title. Has the force been asleep since Episode VI? Doesn't the title Return of the Jedi imply a re-awakening of the Force with Luke Skywalker becoming a Jedi Knight?

Obi, Yoda, Vader and Palps were all using the Force in the OT. It didn't need to be re-awakened.

True, but given as how this is a whole new set of adventures(and more or less a reboot), I think it will be kind of appropriate if we hear Disney's "When You Wish Upon a Star" with the LucasFilm logo lighting up as the "Your dreams come true" part of the tune finishes . I think it will all be appropriate for a new generation.

I hope they reserve that strictly for the "Episode" installments. I also hope they go the Marvel route and don't put the Disney or Bad Robot logos at the start of the movie (though I'm betting Abrams will insist on the latter appearing right after the Lucasfilm Ltd. logo). Seeing Cinderella's castle with the "When You Wish Upon a Star" theme playing right before a Star Wars movie would feel kind of strange to me.

Used as a singular word, one Jedi, Return of the Jedi is the return (redemption) of Anakin.

Nah, the original title was Revenge of the Jedi. It's just Luke returning to lay down the smack and rescue Han...

So Luke could have been training jedi for the past 30 years (along with Leia and their possible offpring), but the Force Awakening means more about a legitimate threat for the first time since Return of the Jedi.
Remember 'A New Hope' (even though it wasn't called it in 1977) refers to Luke being the hope that Kenobi/Yoda have been waiting for to defeat The Emperor. This time, they aren't waiting for anyone to grow up like Luke, because this time the threat is now.

As a kid, I took "the Jedi" in the title to be Luke Skywalker, though it did cross my mind that "the Jedi" might also be plural, as in the return of the Jedi as an institution, which Luke would presumably restart after the movie. Never once crossed my mind that the title referred to Anakin until now. Though with Lucas claiming that the six movies of the PT and OT was meant to be Anakin's "saga" it's certainly a possibility.

Return of the Jedi is supposed to be a multi=faceted title - it refers to Luke, Anakin and the Jedi as a whole returning to the galaxy.
I'd wager The Force Awakens was chosen for the same reason.

"The last of the Jedi will you be... pass on what you have learned..." Wow, mixed messages in the same patch of dialogue, Yoda!

Not really. I never understood that as Yoda wanting Luke to forever be the last Jedi. I understood it as Luke temporarily being the last Jedi, and he is supposed to teach others to become Jedi. Basically it is Yoda telling Luke that it is up to him alone to avoid extinction.
