I think it's release was soiled by the original's awfulness.

For instance, I tried to persuade my dad to go see it with me. And he had zero interest. Not even for a free trip to the movies with me.

Maybe the problem was you rather than the movie.

Well, it is pretty bad. But me and pops go to the movies a good bit. When I know that he has zero interest, I don't even ask (ie Master). Or if I'm just anxious about watching it, and want to go first thing Saturday morning.

Thinking about it, this might be the first time he's declined in 10+ years.

I like the original also it was horrible movie that most people wouldn't like. The comic is interesting. I think people that like heavy metal comic would also the dredd comic.

The only thing that was missing from this was Rob Schneider.

Kidding. Loved it.

Saw it. Loved it. Grew up reading and loving 2000AD/Dredd comics, was beyond fucking livid over that Stallone bloody, squirming, third-trimester abortion of a movie. This was simple, direct, gritty, violent, and more importantly, they nailed the character.

And yeah, having seen The Raid: Redemption, it's hard not to draw comparisons.

Just watched it again on Blu with my Dad. Even better the 2nd time around. Dad liked it also, and kept saying how different it was from other action movies.

I can't get enough of this. I love Dredd in this film. He's so matter of fact when it comes to shit.

Spoiler:
my favorite moment is when he just throws Ma-Ma's right hand man, Caleb, over the floor that they were on like he was nothing. The film makes no big moment of it. Just another goon to Dredd. I thought that was hilarious for the film to do that. Any other film would have had this big meeting of them and make it a very specific moment for the two. Nope...Dredd takes out the goons and throws Caleb over and goes back into the smoke while Ma-Ma looks at what just happened in shock.

That was a bad ass movie. I never would have guessed that from the trailers. It is one of those movies you finish and want to just start all over again.

Karl Urban is so underrated.

Just saw it. Fucking fantastic. I'd heard it was like The Raid and it was similar, but so much better. Karl Urban was spectacular. I'm sorry I missed this in the theaters. Hopefully we get a sequel because this was a great flick.

I've watched the blu ray twice already. The 3D works very well and will be watching that version from now on. I loved that scene in your spoiler as well. The look on MA-MAs face was just perfect.

Don't know if this has been discussed in the past 11 pages, so I apologize ahead if it has been discussed. But
Spoiler:
if Ma-Ma placed the bomb trigger on her heart beats, why or how would Slo-Mo make any difference if she was thrown off the building and died on impact? And why didn't the bomb go off?

Spoiler:
The slo mo had nothing to do with her heartbeat or the bomb. That was just icing on the cake by Dredd to make her suffer. MaMa bluffed Dredd by telling him that if he killed her the bomb would go off. They were at the top floor, which was 1 kilometer (that's like 2 miles) above street level. Dredd called her bluff and he was right.

Great end for that character too. Somewhat disturbing as well once it's at the very end of that travel.

The Raid comparisons are because the Dredd script leaked more than a year prior and those guys likely had read it. The similarity in scenes between the two is far too spot-on in many cases to say the writer of The Raid didn't read it, in my opinion.

Big time. Don't know if you watched the special features on the Blu-ray yet, but during the visual fx tests the

initial scene of her face-planting on the concrete was much more visceral. They changed to make it more stylish instead of gratuitous. The early fx tests show her face splitting into pieces before the blood saturated the screen.

Has everyone gave cunnilingus to their Dredd blu rays yet? I just ripped open the wrapping and went straight to town. I've also been beating the shit out of everyone who hasn't seen this yet.

From an interview with the Writer/Director of The Raid:
Are you aware that the new Judge Dredd film has basically the same plot as The Raid?

Gareth Evans: Yes. It was weird, because, while we were in post on The Raid, I was telling a friend what the story was about – a bunch of guys storming a building. And he said, that’s like the new Judge Dredd movie. And I said, “What?”

He sent me a link that explained the story, and I said, “Oh God, we have to get this released very, very soon.”

--

Where did the idea of the assault on the building come from? It sort of reminded me a bit of Assault On Precinct 13, but in reverse.

Gareth Evans: Again, I knew nothing about Judge Dredd until post-production, but yeah, all the influences came from stuff like Die Hard. Assault On Precinct 13 was amazing – a big influence. Escape From New York as well. But the thing that pushed me to make this as a SWAT team film, was the video for Born Free by MIA. I just fell in love with that video – the way it was shot and edited was very informative to how we approached the film.

That was the video we showed to every cast and crewmember as soon as they came through the door. After about fifteen minutes, we said, have a look at this video.
